I thought buying this LaCie hard drive was going to be the answer to all of my problems. I feel like this device has now made everything a LOT worse.

    This is the third LaCie hard drive that I have purchased, and I keep coming back to LaCie drives for their dependability. When it was necessary to upgrade from a smaller drive, I chose this one knowing well that the previous drives had performed so well. Set up was relatively simple. Once it is in operation you can just about forget about it, as it will do necessary backups as directed, and live quietly in the background taking care of it's self. A thin band of light on the right side let's you know quickly and easily the drive is on and is functioning. I don't like to think of myself as a brand snob, but I will no doubt look to LaCie drives again the next time I need an upgrade, or another drive. I like the dependability and the feeling of security that I know this provides. There is nothing that I do not like about it. A+

    LaCie is the way to go if you own a Mac. Simply plug and play. On the other hand, Seagate drives require far too much setup with drivers to download and complicated setups. Miss a step a Seagate drive is useless. Go with a LaCie and save yourself a headache.

    I recently purchased this LaCie drive to use with my iMac computer for Time Machine backups. It replaces a 3 TB  LaCie d2 Thunderbolt-2 Desktop Hard Drive  that I had been using for this purpose for the past 3 ½ years. That Thunderbolt drive worked reliably and had become completely filled with the backups stored on it over that period of time, until a few weeks ago when I began having problems with my computer abruptly freezing up during browser sessions. I finally determined that the problem was due to the LaCie drive - after trying various things, I disconnected it and the problem disappeared. I don't know if that drive will continue to work properly once I reformat it and begin to attempt to use it again, but given the age of the drive I decided to replace it with a larger one.

    Installation was easy and straightforward. I had the drive operating within minutes of plugging it in, and set Time Machine to establish a new backup to start with on this new drive.

    LaCie provides a three year warranty and registering it on the LaCie website is easy to do. The warranty period is 2 years, which is shorter than the 3 years provided with the more expensive d2 models.

    It does take up more space on my desktop than the d2 models, and LaCie's online instructions state that these drives should not be stacked. Nothing is said that I could find regarding placing the drive vertically on the desktop, so I have not done that. There are really no instructions provided - only a printed simple graphic 'quick start' guide on the inside box that contains the power supply and USB cable. LaCie's website

    I'm now using this drive alongside the      LaCie d2 9000529 USB 3.0 Desktop Hard Drive (3TB) , that I use for storing my iTunes collection. This Porsche Design drive is less expensive than either of LaCie's d2 models and at just over a hundred dollars for 4 TB I felt it was a very reasonable choice. I have now tried both the Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 versions of LaCie's d2 hard drives, with this Porsche Design model the latest addition.

    I'm expecting this hard drive to provide me with reliable service over the next few years. I'm giving it 4 stars since I have not used it for sufficient time to justify a higher rating. I'll return to this review and update it as I gain use this for longer time, to include any comments worth passing on.

    Arrived tonight. Unpacked it. Connected it. Ran the utility. Selected it as my new Time Machine, and done. Total time, from unpacking to turning on the Time Machine function, <10 minutes. BTW, I saw in one of the reviews a statement that the USB 3.0 connector was only 8" in length. Not true. Mine was 36". Anyways, as a Mac user, it doesn't get any easier than this. It also looks great next to my iMac.

    I purchased the LaCie Porsche Design 4TB USB 3.0 Desktop Hard Drive about 4 months ago. It didn't take long to see that it is not reliable. There is one issue I continue to have and it is the only issue. When I turn my CPU on, 9 times out of 10, the hard drive is not recognized. I have to unplug from the ac adapter and wait about 30 seconds, plug it back in and then it recognizes it. This is so frustrating to say the least. I continue to have multiple backups but will replace this drive within the next 30 days or so.

    Maybe this is just me cherry picking this great device.

    I like how fast it is and the storage capacity is huge.

    Transfering files from my macbook pro to this external HD via the USB C is lightning fast. Wow! I was amazed by the transfer speed.

    The only problem I have is the added power cord that is need to run the hard drive. It is just inconvenient to crouch under the table to plug the device as compare to other plug and play external HD. Maybe that is needed for the speed. I don't know.

    Also, I don't know how to avail the free months of subscription to the Adobe program. Can somebody help me?
