Note: Cable customers with Internet speeds above 250 Mbps should use the Linksys CM3024 Cable Modem. If your Internet service plan is 100 Mbps or less, then the Linksys CM3008 Cable Modem is recommended.

Compatible with All Major Cable Providers

If you do not own your own modem, you will have to pay the cable company to rent one of theirs. These fees add up quickly. The Linksys CM3016 Cable Modem is compatible with all major cable providers, including Comcast Xfinity, Time Warner, Cox, and Charter, allowing you to eliminate costly modem rental fees.

    Maximize Your Internet Connectivity

The Linksys CM3016 offers 16 download and 4 upload bonded channels for maximum efficiency while transferring data over your existing cable broadband connection. Certified for DOCSIS 3.0 cable Internet standard, this modem provides download speeds of up to 686 Mbps** over your existing cable connection. Plus, the Intel Puma 6 chipset ensures high-speed downstream and upstream performance.

    Simple Plug-and-Play Setup

    Installation Step One

    Installation Step Two

    Installation Step Three

Installing your Linksys CM3016 Cable Modem is quick and easy and does not require a CD. Simply plug the modem into a power source.

Then use the coaxial cable to plug the modem into the wall jack.

Then connect an Ethernet cable from the modem to your Wi-Fi router.

    Footnotes

*250 Mbps is the maximum throughput you can achieve with the Internet plan provided by your cable service provider. Actual throughput could be lower than 250 Mbps as this throughput is dependent on your contract with your cable service provider.

**686 Mbps based on DOCSIS 3.0 throughput. Maximum speed varies depending on the service provided by the cable operator. IPv6 availability is dependent upon your ISP or service provider providing IPv6 capability.

Speed references are provided, marketed, and sold by your broadband service provider and not Linksys. Actual performance, including network speed and data throughput rate, may vary. Performance depends upon many factors, conditions, and variables, including products used, number of users accessing the Internet, type of traffic generated by each user (interactive browsing versus video streaming), interference, and other adverse conditions. Actual data throughput will be lower than that indicated and may depend on the mix of products used and external factors.

Severe Intel Puma 6 chip Latency Issue -- 3.5 Rating

Severe Intel Puma 6 chip Latency Issue -- 3.5 Rating
My old DOCSIS 2.0 (1 x1) Motorola SB5101U had a 17 megabits/s download speed and 1.75 megabits/s upload speed on my current/new HS internet account of 100megabits/s D/L and 5megabits/s U/L with (24 x 4) channels allotted. So I thought to upgrade using the Linksys CM3024 DOCSIS 3.0 (24 x 8). The first number indicates the download channels (24) and the second number (8) the upload channels. The higher the number the better. You can see by looking at the pictures that the Linksys CM3024 is vastly underperforming on the download side (promoted to have transfer rates up to 960 Mbps)--only seeing 13.5Mbps which is SLOWER than my old DOCSIS 2.0 modem with slightly over 17 Mbps and pretty much performing as expected--maybe slightly higher on the upload side 5.79Mbps with my current ISP account. After doing some online troubleshooting/search, discovered that the Intel Puma 6 chip, which the CM3024 uses, has some severe "latency" issues according to some claims. This has resulted in many Cable Modems, including the Linksys CM3024, being put on "Do Not Use" lists. As far as I can tell there is currently no fix for this problem and you will not see the claimed speeds this modem promotes. (see UPDATE: below)I am returning the Linksys modem and have ordered (after further research) the NETGEAR CM500 (16 x 4) which does NOT have the Intel Puma 6 chip. I will be happy to report on the performance of the new modem when i provision it on my ISP.UPDATE:I Received the NETGEAR CM500 (which does not have the Intel Puma 6 chip). I followed the directions completely to provision it to my ISP, which involved connecting your modem DIRECTLY to a computer not through a Router. I did the speed test on DSLREPORTS; the results are posted as the third picture (106Mbps D/L, 5Mbps U/L) -- SWEEET!I reconnected everything, including my VPN router( key point here), and did the speed test again. Results are picture 4 (21Mbps D/L, 4,78Mbps U/L)-- UH OH! I did some more research and it appears that some have claimed that a VPN tunnel drops the throughput, which is what I'm seeing.CONCLUSION:In light of the issue with using a VPN router, A complete/accurate test of the 3 Modems, the original DOCSIS 2.0, and the 2 DOCSIS 3.0 modems should have been conducted via a direct connection between a computer and the modem and ISP.I am glad the speed issue arose, as I wouldn't have known about the Intel Puma 6 Chip Latency issue with the Linksys CM3024, because I wouldn't have done the research. I already returned the Linksys and cannot reprovision it to speed test it correctly. I imagine that the speed test would have been good. But I think I would have returned it anyway for a Non Intel Puma 6 Modem.I am raising my rating to a 3.5 on this Linksys CM 3024 Modem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Modem, Saves You Money and Delivers on Performance
Reviewed in the United States on August 20, 2016
This was a product that was provided to me free of charge for an honest non-biased review.

5 stars is something I will genuinely give a product if it does what it says it does and provides a great solution to either a want or a need. Sounds great right? Well there are a few points about this that make it great.

Savings: Even if I were to just have purchased this product it makes a ton of sense to me. Going from a $10/ month charge to a $7/ mo credit make all the sense in the world when dealing with Comcast/Xfinity your mileage may vary for your provider but this product would have paid for itself in a year of service just not having the rental fee. (the reason I had the rental was for the home security which has an issued added I will talk about later)

Ease of Setup: Plug in the connection like the instructions show or (disconnect everything from the rental and plug them in accordingly)
Follow the instruction panel and call your provider give them the Make Model and MAC ID and boom it takes about 5 minutes and a short registration and you are live.

Performance: Having just the modem connected I ran multiple speed tests and confirmed I was getting my full paid speed (consistent 120 up and 12 down through both wired and wireless connections. I have ran multiple HD video Streams and Online gaming sessions concurrently and have had no performance dips like I did with the provider modem.
(The issue with the X1 integrated modem, which is required for Home Security, is it sets aside some (up to 25%) of your PAID bandwidth for the public hotspot. The built in router and the provided Combo are terrible.)
No more issues for me. Compared to my previous Surfboard I have had 0 issues with the Linksys Cable Modem. It just works.

Looks: I know this is purely subjective but I like the black and hard lines of the box and diminished clutter of text and lights on the front of the unit it goes great with the style I like.

On a side note the LEDs are pretty muted but still easy to see. It helps reduce the light from my already blinky entertainment center vs other modems I have had. I would Highly Recommend this product for all the above reason.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little modem.
Reviewed in the United States on May 20, 2018
Great modem. I purchased unit Feb 2017 and it's been going strong ever since I installed. It does exactly what I expected it to do on Comcast Xfinity network. Several months ago Comcast upgraded the download speed from 75 mbps to 150 mbps at no additional charge to their customers. This modem is rated for customers with the 100mbps but after a modem restart I've been getting 175 to 180 mbps download speeds consistently. I've streamed up to 4 sporting events on 4 different TV's with no problem with buffering. The modem does run a little warm but nothing to be alarmed about and no hotter than my Tivo Mini's or AppleTVs. . I keep the modem and other equipment out in the open and not stuffed away in a TV cabinet would could be an issue with most equipment.
