If you are new to the home theater projector, like me and are looking in this price range...you wont be disappointed. It 100% met my expectations. More expensive models probably give you more bells and whistles, but I cant imagine the image quality being a whole lot better than this. If you're just looking to put a movie or television or sports on the big screen in your house, you really cant go wrong here.
This projector is perfect for small to medium indoor venues for projection visuals. For this performance I had the projector around 25' away from the stage, casting a bright and crisp projection on a 16' large screen made of 2 - 8' x 8' screens. Very simple projector to use, very lightweight and very quiet. I was honestly amazed for how bright and how vibrant the colors are for such a light and relatively inexpensive projector. I was skeptical about the 3200 lumens being enough for what I needed it for, but after the other night I am more than happy with the performance of this projector. With 1080p resolution and a 25k contrast ratio, it really can't be beat for the price. Comes with an ergonomic remote with buttons that lights up BRIGHT -- great to have.
With tech moving so fast, skip on trying to spend another $500 on a projector that will be obsolete in 3 years anyway. As far as longevity I cannot say much, but I got the warranty just in case. I have used about 10hrs now and no problems yet. To not get the $20 warranty on this projector - or any equipment like this would be a dumb move anyway.
Highly recommend this projector to anyone looking for an affordable, bright, and color-accurate projector!

Top reviews from other countries
I bought this for the reviews here and from projectorcentral.com. It's considered a budget true 1080p projector that provides great picture quality and color for a great price. I couldn't agree with that assessment more. It certainly does those things in spades. Picture is very sharp and the colors in VIVID mode are excellent. After some minor brightness/contrast adjustments for my preference and room, I am hugely satisfied with the results.
It's quiet as I run it in ECO mode and I presently have an 80 inch image until I mount a different gray screen of 106 inches (lots of new wiring and relocating to go - my original 120 inch screen is overkill). In all testing the image has been fantastic at this price point.
Positives for the projector:
- VALUE!!!
- Picture Quality
- Color Quality
- Quiet (26db in ECO mode)
- Light and relatively small unit (easy to place/mount)
- Backlit remote (and not too small so won't lose easily)
- Light output (lumens) allows ambient light viewing quite easily
- Active 3D DLP Link glasses work perfectly
- Bulb has 8000 hour life cycle in ECO and won’t matter much as they are cheap to replace (for a projector lamp it’s cheaper than pretty much all others) – 5000 hours if not in ECO…..good long life cycle in both modes.
- BIG TV experience for LOTS less $$$$
Cons for the projector:
-Menu screen is small (not a con really, it’s more of a preference and the only thing I could even say remotely negative)
Over all I am super pleased with the projector for the price.
It offers great picture and color quality, it is powerful enough for ambient light viewing and can give you that “larger than life” TV experience for a fraction of the price (try the 4K videos from YouTube played at 1080p and see what this unit can produce if you don’t have a Blu-ray player for native 1080p). This replaced a three-year-old BENQ 720p projector (that works/looks/feels as new) but the image that is TRUE 1080p compared to a 1080p signal being produced at 720p, is MASSIVE. The upgrade for $600 is a no brainer if you are considering doing something similar….take the plunge
Completely recommended.
Positives.
Great picture. Haven't changed a thing in the settings
Super bright
a HUGE deal for me. All the bs about lumens aside, its great. regular white wall so special paint and i can watch this sucker during the day with the massive windows in the living room. OBVIOUSLY its better with the blinds drawn and the lights out which is how any decent person watches a movie anyhow...
Negatives
The remote (which u really only use for turning it on and off) has an INCREDIBLY bright blue backlight. like.. obnoxiously so. Almost tempted to pull it apart and mess with it.
NON-ISSUES
internal speaker.... seriously? its a HOME THEATER projector!!! WTF do you need an internal speaker for!?
"and here we have my latest up-to-date home theater setup with recliners, mini-fridge, massive wall sized screen and a 10W mono sound system!"
Startup noise
high pitched capacitor-charging-esque sound for the first minute or so when u power this mini sun up. I now turn it on before the gf sits down and hears it for literally less than a minute and starts complaining about it.
That's it. I made a custom plywood type mount for my ceiling. screwed her to it. Ran the 35' hdmi cable and extension cord through cable trays from rona and i haven't looked back. It's what i wanted. does the one thing i need it to do (throw a huge screen) and has given me no cause for complaints. i haven't even turned it off eco mode. I've experienced no lag playin ps3. I can't see rainbows. costs as much as a 50" tv. and is waaaay cooler.
done...and DONE.
This projector is amazing for the price! I bought it for work, so we could see spreadsheets on a big screen. It quickly doubled as a home projector, for a mini-movie-theatre in the basement. It is true high resolution and is plenty bright enough in a dark-ish room. Recommend!
This projector exceeded my expectations- true high resolution and good brightness
1- Picture quality is crisp, bright and colorful with blacks that
LOOK black all day round. Even 12 feet away and projecting at 8 feet
wide (not diagonal, WIDE), i'm still unable to see any individual
pixels from any distance where i can fit the whole screen into my
view. Mindblowing pic quality.
2- Setup was relatively easy but the lack of lateral correction
options is somewhat limiting. I was VERY lucky the 8 feet wide
projected screen fit between my previously wall mounted shelving
without too much fiddling. you gotta use the targeting grid BEFORE
you start screwing anything to any kind of mount and it's gotta be
straight-on without any lateral deviation. Vertical deviation is no
trouble with the available adjustments but lateral corrections are
inexistant and distortions would occur if you have to realign by
twisting it.
3.1 - Rainbows, or rainbow-like artifacts. They exist, but they can
be fixed. I still do not understand the whole technical aspect of
them honestly, partially because this specific tech is under patent
and partially because some people say it only affects a portion of
viewers but here, they were visible to ALL who saw it on it's day 1
initial 1080p resolution.
I've realized that it ONLY occured on the maximum 1080p resolution on
my pc however; lowering it by ANY degree completely fixed all
occurences, so if you have the option and use it as a computer
secondaire-or-main screen, it's easy to get around and forget. I've
set my desktop and gaming resolution at 1600X900 to keep the same
cinematic apect ration of 16:9 and it's now a flawless image with
still crisp-as-life quality. It MAY, however, be quite a challenge to
make gaming consoles, dvd players and such that use anything ELSE
than 1080p, i don't know, i don't use it for anything else than my
PC as of yet.
3.2 ADDENDUM - I've borrowed a PS3 from a friend to see how it reacts
with consoles using the hdmi AND i've found a 3colors(YRW) rca-to-
hdmi adapter to plug an old gamecube to it with the 1080p conversion
and test workability with such less flexible settings. The PS3 with
HDMI works well, even in 1080p, without any rainbow artifacts thus
making me believe the actual problem might be with some pc graphic
cards interface OR that the PS3 choose to use 1080i instead of 1080p;
either way, modern consoles should do fine and correct this by
themselves if it's an actual resolution problem common to this
specific tech.
3.3 REvisit: i've tried it again with 1080p on the PC and the rainbow
artifacts are completly gone, 1 week after purchase. I presently
have NO IDEA how they finaly got there and then got away, but i won't
complain; it could have been a problem with the pc's graphics cards
finally, but it seems to be going well for now. So unreliable on this
point, but the fix is easy to implement if it occurs, just drop to
900p.
4 - This lamp is very powerful. I'm not sure how many lumens i'd get
with an actual photometer in the room set at 12 feet from wall to
device, but it's really bright. I've actually set it in "ecolamp"
mode because the standard setting HURTS when it's dark. This thing
light up the two adjacent rooms when the screen is white (per
exemple, surfing the youtube main page). The normal "full" lamp mode
makes it actually useless to have blinds in the room during daylight,
but since i already had them installed for a previous BenQ projector,
i just keep it at the eco setting to prolong the lamplife and i can
actually keep one of the 3 blinds in the room open and still watch
stuff without problems. Note that my walls are regular cheapest white
paint you can find, not the fancy reflexive stuff or even a simple
glossy finish and with those, i would not dare to set it to "normal"
maximum output without sunglasses. It does make for a fine all-day
system whatever lighting conditions might be, even at great distance.
5 - There IS a noise when the projector starts, a very small
whistling thingy that goes away after a dozen of seconds or booting
AND the projector's fan is the less noisy thing in my house; the dvd
player on my PC makes more noise spinning than this, it's way quieter
than i expected, i've forgotten to power it down a few times because
i did not hear it. NOTE however that it takes a GOOD 30-40 SECONDS
for the lamp to reach full brightness, so first secondes will be
kinda dark-ish, and the thing loads for 4-8 seconds everytime you
change resolution or connect something new to it. It's quiet enough
you can watch non-explosion-filled stuff and understand the whispered
dialogues.
6 - Speaking of explosions: GAMING. This comes with a "special gaming
mode with superlow 16 miliseconds delay" presets that remove any
image processing to make stuff happen as fast as possible on screen.
Gotta say i did not actually saw much a difference in a matter of
DELAY or "lag" while playing action, racing and fighting games with
OR without, but i've still kept it on for the colors. The untouched
colors are just on cue and make it feel that much more vibrant and
real.
7 - The speakers are there and not just for show. The sound quality
won't beat a GOOD 2.1 system with a subwoofer, but it's better than
most of the desktop 2.0 (only 2 speakers) setting i've heard in the
last 10 years. I'm not kidding, i had to put to sound to 1 / 10 to
play anything because it's so really really loud. I suggest you lower
it to it's minimum level before plugging anything into it, it made me
run for the remote and my daughter cover her ears in fear from the
"screen is shouting daddy!". So yeah, it works, but not for your
quiet movie night while the kids are sleeping; works TOO well for
that.
OVERALL: it's a GREAT computer-based projector for casual, cinematic,
gaming or even professional settings (though maybe OVERKILL for the
professional powerpoint/stats/graphs stuff).
The easily fixed rainbow problem (3.1-.2-.3) is just that; easily
fixed, but still a tech problem that may be much more problematic to
people using more conventional or static settings; i however am not
bothered by it and have found the minuscule loss of resolution tweak
completly unnoticeable.
P.S. Optoma stocks the remplacement lamps at their own site and they
are somewhat reasonably priced as these things go, but since it's
already estimated for such a long life and i bought it with a
protection plan (DO! this is NOT a cheap system), i'm not sure i'm
even gonna bother until the next tech comes up to replace this one in
4 or so years.
Experience I have had and it is somewhat easier to handle. The cost of a movie ticket for one person $15 to $20 so I did get to enjoy the big screen trust me I used it everyday 😀 about 5000 hours in I started to notice the picture wasn't as bright so I switched from economy mode to bright mode. I used economy mode for the 5000 hours of use. Switching to bright mode helps it a bit. So I know my theater experience days are numbered. I started searching for a bulb replacement I felt $150 to $200 was in my mind for covering the cost of a replacement bulb, man I was wrong. I'm still searching for a replacement hopefully I can land an affordable bulb. If and when I do I will repost my results. I know one thing though I will do better research the next time I purchase a projector right down to the bulb replacement costs I will replace this one I have one time and then I will move on from there. I am extremely happy with how this projector operates. I and many other with me have had no better experience in watching movies we love it. Stupid bulbs grrrr lol
