sturdy and well made. It's important to know that you won't get the char broiled or gas cooked taste. However, this little grill can cook! The chicken turned out moist and delicious with bits of char (see photo). Adding glaze to the chicken at the end added more flavor and color, which was good because the chicken wasn't browning too much. We cooked hot dogs and they got great grill marks. Yes, the temp does drop when you open the cover, but we managed to successfully cook chicken, 16 hot dogs, and burgers for 7 people on this grill without any problems. The top rack is very useful when you're cooking volume and this grill can easily handle it. if you can't have a gas grill, this grill is a perfect solution. Looking forward to grilling more!

Here are some things I noticed. First, I had to assemble this myself. I am not a handyman, I am just somebody's mom, but I managed to get it together. I used a phillips screw driver and a nut driver set . I love that nut driver set. You wouldn't believe how often that has come in handy. Anyway, I put the grill together according to the instructions. It wasn't too hard. I noticed the manual says you are supposed to take it apart for storage. It says "Remove electric controller from grill. Store controller indoors." That doesn't sound right to me. How the heck am I supposed to do that? I am going to assume that advice is wrong, or perhaps copied and pasted from the manual for some other product, like this one , which advertises a "removable dial control".
Here is what I noticed about cooking the food. The infra-red cooking gave me a different kind of satisfaction from a charcoal grill. With charcoal, you can build up the fire real hot, or let it burn down low. You can spread the coals around or pile them up. Controlling the heat is part of the art of the barbecue. The Patio Bistro at the hottest temperature does not get as hot as a charcoal can get when you build it up. When I set the temperature to 450, the top dial only rose to about 350. Of course the temperature at the top of the lid is not the same as the temperature down by the heating element, and things did cook up nicely. But it took a little longer to get dinner on the table than I expected.
Not scrubbing the grill is another feature of the traditional barbecue. You can just let a cast-iron grill get real hot and then brush it off with a wire brush. The porcelain grill is different. You can burn off most of the residue but it still needs to be washed between uses. It isn't too bad. The grill fit easily in my sink and it came clean quickly with a kitchen brush.
The Patio Bistro is very easy to heat up. You just plug it in and turn it on. So the bother of the cleanup is offset by the ease of the startup. Also, there are no fumes, which is nice. The shelves fold down, giving the grill a small footprint. If you have a patio with an attached closet or shed, it can easily be stored inside.
The infra-red cooking technique does indeed give you a nice crust on the meat and a juicy center. But it lacks a bit of the flair and invitation to camaraderie of the more traditional outdoor grills. This is simply a useful appliance. It will cook your dinner in a convenient way.

The only problem is with the assembly. Make sure to have a helper and be patient, it took about two hours to put together so it might be worth your time to have a professional put it together for you. Some of the fittings are TIGHT and there is no wiggle room.
I would buy this again if I ever needed a new grill.
