PROS - Easy set up and worked seamlessly with Amazon Alexa Echo Show. Lifx products also have some of the best third party app support. I've used this bulb with Android, IOS and Samsung Smarthings apps and hubs with no issues.CONS - Bulb stopped working after a years worth of use and the vividness of the colors also started to fade. Price is also a negative. Lifx pricrs rae at the high end when compared to the market as a whole. However among more well-known and higher-rated brands they fall within the ballpark.CONCLUSION - I've used other lifx products with great success. I currently have one fault that still in use after over a year worth of daily you suck. The color on this one has also slightly faded. Outside of price that's probably my biggest complaint and why I didn't give it a 5-star rating. I'm not sure if the bulb I got was just bad and went out after a while or if it's a common factor to this model. Much like the LIFX, the LIFX + has all the next level color, brightness and awesome functional features of its sibling. If you want my thoughts about all that stuff see my review on the new LIFX A19. In summary, they’re great. 5 stars.

Now, the LIFX +. I liked the idea (it’s a bit crazy James Bond tech feeling) and hey, I was getting LIFX anyway so figured I’d get a mix. The main difference is that the + have a whole added channel of light for ‘night vision enhancement’. Whenever the bulb is not set to visible light it puts out infrared that is invisible to the eye (it also switches it on when they’re set to super dim).

Why did I bother? Well… Have you ever been lying in bed at night and then there is a creepy noise? You and your significant other have a bit of a “debate” over whether or not it needs investigation or who will go check and you're kind of freaked out? Solution: just set up some little cams at key locations in your house, along with a couple of these babies and use an app to check from bed. And if there IS someone lurking about just turn all the LIFX in your house on red with said phone and totally scare them off! Problem solved.

Yes, cameras do work without LIFX + boosting the vision but I figured I’d rather upgrade the lights and have fewer cams as that was less 1984-esque. Another thing I've noticed from my testing so far is that the super infrared makes windows really easy to see through (normally hard with cameras at night) and lights up all those weird nooks and creepy, dark halls in older places so it is a big improvement on just the camera alone.

Some potential bonus uses that might add some value: hilarious night time pet antics captured, proof there aren’t ghosts in your house, know who is raiding the fridge, watch your baby sleep, see who’s stealing your paper at dawn… the list goes on.

In summary: this is already a 5 star product but with super innovative functionality added in that you can’t get in other smart lights.

 The Lifx+ bulbs are probably the best smart home LED lights right now. I have personally rated them higher than the Philips Hue Color Ambiance bulbs BUT as of right now, if you're running Apple Home, you won't be able to Lifx+ bulbs with Siri.

There are two features that differentiate the Lifx+ and regular Lifx bulbs. If you're home doesn't need IR LEDs and water protection, I'd suggest you go with the regular Lifx bulbs (which I have reviewed as well). Use the Lifx+ either outside, or in your bathrooms or areas of high moisture.

Pros:
- Bright (1100 lumens)
- IR LED (enhances visual range of smart home cameras like Nest Cam Indoor/IQ)
- Water resistant

Cons:
- Expensive

Again, if you want the full story on the Lifx bulb, check out my review on that product. I'll summarize that review after I go through the differentiating features. I've done a comparison between the Lifx bulbs and the Philips Hue Color Ambiance so check out my site in the profile.

The IR LED's is going to be useful for people running night-vision enabled smart home cameras such as the Nest Cam IQ/Indoor as well as the D-Link Omna. From my basic testing, I was able to get the a distance of 40 ft with the IR LED's which basically doubles the IR LED's found on the Nest and D-Link Cameras.

The bulb itself gets quite warm even though it looks "off" so you know something is going on. I will admit that it was mildly creepy being able to see myself in my smart home camera's feed while I was stumbling around in a dark room.

For the extra water protection, Lifx doesn't give the bulb any sort of IP rating (I would have expected at least an IP67 rating) but does state that the bulb can be used outside as long as there is no direct contact with water. So make sure you use the bulbs in a covered porch or in a steamy bathroom.

The extra $20 dollars adds up fast so I would be picky where I use the bulbs. I personally wouldn't use them as my base bulb, I'd go with a set of regular Lifx bulbs.

Now if you remove the IR LED's and extra water protection, you're basically stuck with a regular Lifx bulb. Which is a good thing! The standout feature for the Lifx bulb is the brightness at 1100 lumens. That's approx. 70% brighter than the average Hue Color Ambiance bulb. I use a full set of Lifx bulbs in my basement/office/video review area and the brightness is noticeable. I love being able to set the working area to a nice cool color to help focus my minds in the morning and a warm color at night while I power down for the night.

The Lifx app is well designed with the standout feature being the "effects". These effects are basically "scenes" on steroids and some of the effects allow you to interact with the lights such as the music visualizer. Check out the video to see it in action!

Some will say the lack of base station is a plus but unless you have a hard to reach router, that shouldn't be an issue for most people.

I love these. I have a LIFX + (A19) and a regular LIFX (A19). Both work great. I use them with Alexa all the time, and never have any problem. I always use Alexa voice commands to dim the bulbs and change them to my desired colour. When I go to bed, I tell Alexa "Good Night", and she turns the bulbs off. These are well-built, reliable bulbs, and they never seem to lose connection with the Wi-Fi. If you happen to turn the bulbs off with the light switch (instead of with a connected device), the bulb very quickly re-connects to Wi-Fi when you turn the light switch back on. I have just ordered two more of these for other rooms.

I purchased this in hopes the IR would help illuminate a small backyard that I have with a security camera, but I found that a regular LED daylight bulb had similar results. This bulb is now at the far side of my living room to help supplement the IR from my indoor security camera. The multicolor part seems to have a broader pallet than my Phillip's hue bulbs. Other than using the IR in a small room, you may be better off getting specialised IR products for security cameras and get the LIFX without IR for use as a multicolor bulb to save a few dollars.

LIFX bulbs currently turn themselves on after a power outage and LIFX promised to fix this back in January 2016. The bulb will power back on to its last on state. Meaning if the brightness was at 1% it will come back at 1%, but that is only true if the power goes off and on once. More often than not the power will bounce a few times and the bulb will reset itself coming back on at 100% brightness. Lucky for me I only bought one bulb, unlucky for me I used it as an IR source for the baby monitor.

I wish I was aware of this issue before buying such an expensive bulb.
