The WORST blender I've ever owned.
First, I think I'm qualified to write this review: I once worked retail demonstrating various models of blenders. I actually had formal training on the subject (from Sears Sales Development MANY years ago). I've owned and used blenders for; well let's just say "a very long time".If you look down past the blade in the picture, you'll see a loop of gray rubber ring seal sticking up INTO the jar area of the blender. If you're thinking "that can't be good", you would be right. I carefully assembled the base, ring, and jar following the instructions that came with the blender. Three different rings, tested multiple times because I WANTED this to work properly. When I start blending a smoothie (whatever kind of icy drink you like), all starts well, the blending seems to be going well, and then a loud noise occurs, the blending is noticeably "wrong" - and your drink is running over the support sides of the blender and down onto your counter and the floor if you are not quick. What has happened is that the rubber ring gets pulled out from under the bottom of the jar, thus giving your "blend" a large space to run out. This happens EVERY time I try to blend using this model. No matter how firmly the base/ring/jar are assembled.Did I mention I've had lot's of experience with blenders? I should also note that the blender just prior to this one was also an Oster, the original Classic. I used it until I literally wore out the shank that turns the blade. I followed the directions that came with the new one, but whatever the case: I know how to assemble an Oster blender. Until this "whirlwind" model I have never seen the rubber ring be pulled out of position and cause the unit to leak.I don't know if it is the ultimate cause or not, but I will note that this blender runs counter-clockwise. I've read about that, but never seen it before. Seems to be the opposite of what you want - the old one was a clockwise spinner. As far as I can remember every other blender I've ever owned was clockwise - otherwise you are spinning in the direction that unscrews the jar. In this model they put prominent "stops" (which they tell you to be sure to use) to try to prevent backwards spinning of the jar. I expect some expert could tell me WHY going counter-clockwise would be good. I think it is counter-intuitive and that it contributes to the leakage problem at the very least.The Oster party line is that I must not be assembling it right. Baloney. There is something in this unit going wrong. It cannot be stopped by any effort of mine or anyone else in the family. Again, this is not my first rodeo. The unit is going back and I will not buy another one of this model. If you buy one or have bought one already, good luck. This is THE WORST blender I've ever owned.

Popular style! That means the price went up. The blender container is glass. The food processor container is plastic. All metal drive - the motor is quite powerful. Looks handsomely vintage sitting on the counter. Made in China. The useful long chopper must not be used for ice - otherwise it will become deformed, and at this time no replacement is available.
