MEN'S M.U.L.E. 100 OZ HYDRATION PACK

There’s a reason this is one of our bestselling, longest-running packs: it’s got everything you need, and nothing you don’t. The M.U.L.E. has a narrow-gauge design that keeps it light and maneuverable—so even when it’s fully loaded for a day of mountain biking, it won’t get in your way. This pack is built around the brand new Crux reservoir, which is even easier to load and refill, and delivers more water with every sip. Since we launched the first M.U.L.E. in 1996, mountain bikers have been telling us that it hits the sweet spot of size vs. storage: it’s lightweight, but big enough to carry three liters of water and a day’s worth of snacks and gear. Over the years, we’ve also added air channels to keep your back cool, universal helmet hooks, and clever compartments for stashing tools, keys and electronics. The M.U.L.E. pack also features a magnetic tube trap that snaps easily into place, so you can hydrate without taking your eyes off the trail.

Very happy with my Camelbak purchase!
Update - 1/4/2018 So I have been using this for several months now, mostly for adventure racing (orienteering, mountain biking & kayaking) and am really come to appreciate what this is and is not. Each race I put about 40-50 miles on the gear, most of the mileage is biking, but each one is at least 10-12 miles on foot, essentially jogging. The pack is holding up beautifully, and I have been impressed with how comfortable it is. I usually only take 2 liters of water and then refill enroute to help save on weight and space for other gear without looking like a sherpa, but the times I have filled it all the way up it still felt good and there was still room for maps, rain gear, a small first aid kit, some bike tools and 4 or 5 energy bars -- decent space in these. One of the best features has been the "air director". I tried to take a photo, but it's a mesh over some foam pads to create breathable space on your back. It works! Two other small things I like are color coding the zipper for the water bladder (blue) and the reflective stripes on the back of the pack. LIKE THIS PAK!Fits like it should; really like how the bladder detaches and how well the fill cap works. I usually go with a 50/50 mix of ice and water in the summer and the big mouth on this bladder make it easy to get ice cubes in right from a big cup. You can still make a mess with the quick disconnect at the bottom of the drinking tube though; although the bladder doesn't leak when you remove the hose, any water in the hose can (and will) come out, so this maneuver is best done over a sink vice your couch. Plenty of storage -- most of it useful. I've used mine regularly for mountain biking and for adventure races -- really glad I decided to replace the generic hydro-pak I've been using the past two years with the Camelbak. A bit spendy, but I feel its been worth the price. Excellent construction; you get what you pay for with this. People who've complained about the shoulder straps need to try on my old one! I should have gotten this sooner.

I got this to ride mountain bikes and love it. The tool compartment has good pockets to keep your tools/keys/wallet from sliding around inside and works great to evenly distribute your things. The air ventilator design on the back really helps reduce sweat accumulation. The higher pocket is good for phone/Clif bars. Every spot of the bag serves a purpose.

The product updates from my old Camelback purchased 8 years ago are substantial. The new bladders have a better design; the lid screws on and off more easily, the tube has an easier on/off lever, and the magnetic shoulder clip is very nice. Just for the updated bladder alone this is worth buying or upgrading if you already have an older Camelback.

I've tried a knock-off Camelback and was disappointed in the build quality/bladder as it broke in less than a year of use. Just get the name brand here, it's absolutely worth the extra money and will last for several years worth of heavy use.

This is a great hydration pack! I did a LOT of research about hydration packs, and I decided on this beast! I bought this for a Spartan race last summer. It worked great until I had the obstacle of where you had to crawl underneath barbed wire. I had to take the pack off to complete the obstacle, but it was no big deal. I haven't used this for any long training runs, but I LOVE the 100 oz bladder. I also LOVE the little magnet that holds the valve in place while not in "use". It also has nice pockets for storage, but I'm always leary of putting much in the pockets because I don't want to damage the bladder. This is a great CamelBak product!

I use this product for running and hiking. I've run a couple half marathons with it and countless long training runs and long hikes. I did not have any hydration pack before this.

The backpack itself is really good, the nicely-fitting 3 liter bladder just makes it a really good overall outdoors accessory. Any keys, fruit/snacks, TP, wet wipes, hand sanitizer, dry socks, small rain jacket, sunglasses, literally anything you would need to throw in your hiking day bag will fit here. It's quite roomy.

The product itself is really well designed and high quality so if you get it I don't think you'll regret it on that account. The only distinguishing factor you may want to consider is how much do you want to drink, and how much weight do you want to carry. I drink a TON when I run so I like having three liters of water. That's a lot though and for running this is about the biggest pack I see out there on the trails (alternatives being handhelds, smaller hydration vests e.g. 1.5L, etc).

For hiking I think it's a no-brainer investment. For running, it depends on what you want -- this is way too big for short distance racing but for any training runs and even long races if you want to be sure you'll have enough water and not have to mess with stops this is a good bet. I do not cycle outdoors but I imagine this would be perfect for cycling.

To clean: I occasionally use a little bleach + water, then rinse well, then wash with dish soap. I did get a little brush cleaning kit that cost on the order of ~$8 also from amazon. it is kind of a pain in the ass to clean but that's life.

Reviewed in Mexico on October 16, 2018
