It works!
Let me start by at first I used this when it first arrived but I felt it didn’t work bc it was too hot. I’m a newbie with planting... A few weeks later I decided to give it another shot with new seeds, placed a plastic lid on top, and in LESS THAN 24 HOURS my soybean was busting through the soil. These have a germination time of 7-10 day. I did NOT soak the seeds, and didn’t do anything extra special. 3 days later and another one germinated. My only complaint is needing to water more frequently due to the heat drying the soil out. If anyone has self-watering tips that I can combine with this mat, my life will be golden!

Read some mixed reviews... no idea why. I love this heat mat, and the price is great. I put a folded dish towel on the mat, then some baggies with paper towel and seeds in them on top of the dish towel. The heat is very consistent and created nice "rainforest" like environment in the baggies. Also using it now to start some seeds in a little Jiffy "greenhouse". Works awesome. The mat is rolled up when you get it. I used a couple of cans of this or that to weigh it down overnight and in the morning I removed the cans and everything stayed put. Great heat mat, and I did not need any sort of temp controller at all. Worked perfect for me right out of the box.

Heat mat is perfect for under tank heating for reptile enclosure. It does not have any temperature adjustment, just on/off switch and I found that after constant use the glass on the bottom of the enclosure was too hot, could cause a burn to the animal. But that was without any air flow under the tank. So I raised the tank a little so there is about 1/4" gap at edges of the tank. I think that will do it or may have to raise a bit more. Either way, the pad itself seems sturdy and working as described.

I ordered 3 of these and two of them are perfect. The other has small defects aesthetically but still appears to work well (longevity?). Open air temp above the mats fluctuates between 75-80F. Put a 1020 tray filled with soil on top of it, I can imagine the temp being closer to 90F. You might consider these products to use in conjunction with:

This review is for the Ohuhu IP67 Waterproof Seed Starting Heating Mat. I've been starting some tomatoes, peppers, and basil inside for our garden when (if?) it warms up outside. However, our two-story house has the problem most do: when the heat is on, the upstairs gets much warmer than downstairs. That has led to us leaving the heat around 65 degrees Fahrenheit overnight - too cold for my tropical plant seedlings to sprout!

I'm growing my seedlings in the Tierra Garden Deep Rootrainers Kit right now, not in the customary Jiffy Seed Starter Tray. (It seemed like every time I started seeds in those little peat pots, the roots spread to other pots and I ended up pulling them apart every time I sent to pot them or put them in my garden.) That means that: 1) there is not as much direct contact with the soil, and 2) the mat has to be waterproof, because some moisture comes out the bottom. (Obviously, I don't water the seedlings while they are on the mat, but I don't do anything silly like wipe them down with a towel before I put them back on it.) The mat is a little bit bigger than the rootrainers, but I would rather that than the other way around.

So far, so good! My basil plants sprouted in about 5 days, and my peppers also sprouted quickly after the heat mat arrived. I had already seen my tomatoes sprouting, so it's hard to gauge the benefit for them. I have put the heat mat on top of the refrigerator, and I am seeing soil temperatures about 7 degrees Fahrenheit above the surrounding air temperature. Although I was initially worried about putting the heat mat on the fridge, the fridge doesn't seem to be affected by it - I don't see any discoloration of the fridge material, nor notice any other negative effects.

Based on my initial observations, I highly recommend this heat mat! If you are worried about your seedlings getting too hot, Ohuhu also sells a thermometer to regulate the temperature. I haven't used it, but have read that using such tools can help avoid extreme temperature fluctuations that could damage your seedlings.

Be careful, don’t forget to water at least twice a day, the mat won’t roast the seeds but it will definitely dry out the moisture from the seed starter.
Note this does not have a way to increase or decrease the temperature. You just plug and that’s all.

This is my second one. The first one quit but that was after 2 years of being on which was better than the previous "brand X" which melted & almost caught fire.
In between I purchased a "real" animal warming pad but my cat didn't like it. It barely warmed up. This mat puts off plenty of heat but is self regulating so needs no controller. I just have a towel over it and that seems to suit her just fine. She's a 14 year old outside cat who lives in an unheated shop. It helps with her old bones.
