I LOVE the ability to plug a gadget in, and point it to the access point, and have all my devices automatically connect up. This was necessary to satisfy the problem of Google chromecast, where it requires a phone to operate, and they must be on the same wifi network. (Most hotels isolate devices to keep guests secure from each other)
I bought the small nano first. And I later purchased the larger version (TL-WR902AC). So I will provide the pros and cons of each here.
Please also note that I am EXCLUSIVELY using this in hotels in wi-fi only (never plugged in the RJ-45 ethernet) as a wi-fi access point for all my tech, I've not used it for anything else. There are many other features and capabilities that are not accounted for here.
Nano:
+ simple setup, great wizard.
+ SOOOOO tiny
+ Works great with Marriott/SPG hotels (and everywhere else I've tried it)
- Struggles with multiple devices, the single band antenna seems to be a big restriction in speed and multiple devices.
- Slow speeds
Big brother (AC902 model)
+ Much cleaner and more stable connections - handles all my devices brilliantly.
+ Far more features (that I don't use)
+ Larger than the nano (picture for reference) but still so small that it's perfect for travel
- Setup is not so streamlined. Additional hardware toggle on the device makes it more confusing. (I use the middle setting, "Share Hotspot")
Side-notes:
I used this exclusively at a single hotel before upgrading, so the differences noticed between the two models were all at the same property.
Both devices get a bit warm, but nothing concerning, and it's not at all surprising given how tightly they are packing them.
Both are small enough that the only reason I would recommend the nano over the big brother is if you need something to fit in your pocket, or purse, and don't have high expectations in terms of speed.

The device itself is small, which is great for travel. It has a micro-USB connector for power, though it is recessed pretty far and doesn't really work with a lot of cables - as the cable will move ever so slightly and disengage from the port, shutting down the system.
I'm writing this from the perspective of a network/firewall engineer - I deal with enterprise grate routers, switching, firewalls, etc... daily.
The user interface is slow - VERY slow, and unless you run the quick setup, getting it to use another AP as a WAN interface is not intuitive at all. If you refresh the page, it's a 50/50 shot you get a message stating "Only one admin is allowed to access the admin UI at a time." and you either have to wait a long time or reboot the router to gain access again.
I tried setting this up in both the United Lounge as well as on a United flight. In the lounge, I was able to configure new SSID names and get my phone and laptop to connect to the internal hotspot broadcasting from the device, but I was not presented with the splash screen even after trying an http (not https) connection to get the redirect to the splash page on multiple devices. I gave up and said I'd try it on the plane.
I tried it again on a United 737 Max-8 with the ViaSat Wi-Fi connection system. I powered the unit via the USB connector in the seat directly to the hotspot and tossed it in the seat back. I connected to the TP-Link hotspot, and then configured the hotspot to connect to the plane Wi-Fi on the WAN side. I was able to eventually get this to work after trying a few times, and ultimately I was able to get to unitedwifi.com and sign in and purcase the Wi-Fi for the flight. At first, connection was very spotty, most of the time websites would not load or load completely. After that, they would mostly load but latency was over 700-800ms. I realize it's airplane Wi-Fi, but the Viasat system is strong. Speedtest would max out at about 4M down and less than 1M up. If I connected my laptop directly to the United Wi-Fi and bypassed the travel router, I got at least 30 down (usually closer to 40 down) and much better upload speed (measured in megabits, not sub 1M).
No firmware update was available as of last week, and the firmware from device release back in early/mid 2023 is the only firmware avaiable.
The two times I tried this product, it was frustrating to configure and simply unusable. I am returning it and I'm going to try a different travel router.

Changing settings for the router is a complete pain and take hours.
I bought this because I thought this will be like other TP Link products I bought and will be easy to set up.
Instead it is just a useless box.
