I do recommend registering the saw immediately. After about an hour and a half of trimming branches, the saw started to make a high pitched squealing noise and had trouble cutting through small branches. I called the Sun Joe customer service line (on a Sunday afternoon) and was asked if the saw was registered. When I responded that I did register it, the customer service agent quickly looked it up and had a replacement on the way. All I had to do was print out a return shipping label that was emailed to me and stick the first saw in the replacement box and drop it off at a UPS store. Had a brand new saw in my hands Wednesday. Finished trimming this past weekend with absolutely no trouble. Saw is extremely easy to use and the 10’ extension is great.
I would recommend this saw to anyone loooking to use it around your house. It is not recommended for commercial use. Great price on an incredibly handy tool to have around.
-oil leaking: I have not noticed this at all. I rotated this every which way while using it and there was no sign of oil leaking during use. I store it laying down with the oil cap up, so I don’t know if there’s an issue with the orientation it’s stored in. I did note that the cord to keep the oil cap from falling could easily get caught in the cap threads, which could cause leaking.
-chain falling off: I didn’t notice any chain slipping at all after about 2 hours of work. Make sure to follow the directions for installing and tightening and you should be fine.
-Loose fitting saw: I can’t recall if this was one I saw where there were reviews about the saw end being loose and feeling like it would fall off, but regardless I did not experience this at all. Feels like solid construction, even when you adjust the angle. No “wobbling” whatsoever.
The extension is 2 feet and inches, so the tool is about 5 feet unextended.
Now, if you can reach the branch, this thing cuts beautifully and has lots of power, the 7" branch diameter...I have not cut one that big, but did cut a 5" and no problem at all...the farther away from you the branch is though, the less likely is that you can cut a branch as big as 7" because while I don't doubt the tool can do that...you really then need to be in the right position being able to keep the blade straight and with the right pressure...
But all and all a great tool, I'm very happy with it and the price compare with the competition is just great.
Pretty easy to adjust & use, though it does get quite top heavy at full extension. With my 12 foot platform ladder, I'm able to reach everything I need to cut with saw at shortest length. With full extension, I can reach most of the 2 shorter palms from the ground, but still have to get on a ladder to reach as high as I want to cut.
Only cons I have:
1> and it is a new development. Chain oil tank is full, but chain is completely dry after an hour of use, and no oil missing from the tank. Oiler had been working till now.
2> small branches will sometimes get stuck in the chain and dragged back into the plastic housing covering the chain sprocket. As often as it happens, I'm surprised (and glad) that the plastic cover hasn't broken.
