- Z270 so the latest i7 Intel chip
- I absolutely love the onboard wifi and Bluetooth. This was the distinguisher for me for the Code vs the Hero. I wanted wifi and Bluetooth. The antennae has a magnetic base, so it is very easy to use.
- In the upper right corner, the MB has a two digit code that tells you what is going on. It helped me during start up. I had plugged in my water cooled cpu cooler into the wrong plug... the code showed on the MB and it stated something was wrong when I started up, before I could get to the bios
- It allows two video cards connected by SLI
- Some of the connectors are behind the cover, so not as easy to access
- The front case USB 3.0 connector had some pins that were a bit crooked. I ended up bending a pin. Luckily I had a good tool set and slowly and carefully bent it back and made it work.
- This has a USB 3.1 case plug, but I forgot that and purchased a case without a 3.1 USB...a missed opportunity. I might see what else I can do
- It has two M.2 sockets. once would lay down under the main cover. The other mounts perpendicular to the MB in the bottom right corner.
- It supports a full blown water cooling system, control and temperature. I did not use this, just a water cooled CPU cooler, that does not use this.
As I said. I love the MB. It will help me learn and grow and have a lot of fun!!
1: When I first completed my build, the rear audio port was constantly giving off white noise with anything I plugged into it. After updating the BIOS and installing the sound drivers from the ASUS support page, the issue was gone.
2: This is a RGB-lit motherboard, and out of the box it will cycle through colors constantly. You will probably want to change this. The option, however, is not in the BIOS like you might expect. The only RGB option there is to disable it entirely. You will need to download another program from ASUS (called AURA) to change the lighting settings and sync it with other AURA-enabled components.
3: If you're installing a M.2 drive, the slot for it is underneath the plastic logo. There is a screw that will have to be taken out first. Lift up on the plastic and you'll find it.
4: XMP is disabled by default, so if your computer is clocking your RAM low (mine is 3200MHz but was only being registered as 2133MHz), you'll need to turn that on. Thankfully this motherboard doesn't seem to have any issues with maxing out your CPU when you enable both XMP and Turbo Boost. In fact, mine is only operating at around 1.15GHz as I type this.
I'll come back and update this review if anything changes, though I'm hoping that isn't the case.

Also, looks amazing with the motherboard armor. Asus did a great job in making this mb easily one of the best looking gamer's board around -- and I say this not as a biased owner.
Anyway, quick note though -- if you are going to use the first M.2 bus, you will need to unscrew and remove a small part of the armor. After installing into the first M.2 bus, I could put the armor cover back on but I leave it off to help with the heat dissipation. The reason why I mention this is because it can be a hassle to install into the first M.2 bus (because the armor covers it).
Otherwise, amazing Asus product. Clear winner. Highly recommended.
However I have a few issues with it that took away a star:
1) The board's GameFirst IV is buggy, and alternates between working perfectly to completely breaking my internet requiring restarts. This feature was the only reason I got this board, and it does not work for me at all. (I was trying to merge two separate networks of Wifi+Wifi or Wifi+Ethernet)
2) The positioning of the GPU release latch is quite tricky to push, as it is between the CPU heat sink, and is "lowered" because of the shielding. It is incredibly hard to take out the GPU, but you don't usually need to do so regularly.
3) There are on-board RGB lights that turn on whenever the system is plugged into the wall and cannot be turned off. (hope you like night lights)
4) The single latch RAM slots are not really intuitive to plug in RAM, as the resistance to plug into the fixed latch is higher than I would feel comfortable handling RAM.
5) Some of the motherboard screws are somewhat tricky to install, as there is a major gap between the shielding and the actual motherboard. I had to use a magnetic screwdriver to prevent losing any screws.
