My only two complaints would be the hard drive size and the battery. The hard drive is a solid state drive. I have no complaints about that, except it is the only hard drive that comes with the laptop and that will fill up fast. So I had to purchase a second hard drive. I bought a sata 1tb drive, which I'm using as an external hard drive until I can get the mounts to install it from MSI, which isn't that expensive (except for shipping). The laptop does have space for a second hard drive, so installing it is pretty easy. I also believe it has room for another ssd. However, the decent sized ones cost over $200. Right now, I don't see the need for that yet. It also has room for another memory stick. I'll be upgrading that too in the future.
The second complaint is the battery life. Yeah, its not that good. But unless I'm traveling somewhere, I will probably have this baby plugged up. However, I was aware of the issue before I bought it. I'll probably have to invest in a car power adapter.
Overall I'm extremely satisfied and I'm hoping this investment will last me a long time. I already have people who want to purchase a MSI laptop of their own after seeing mine. Also, I did purchase a new laptop cooler as it is a gaming computer. Heat hasn't been a problem at all for me.
Cons: GP62MVRX Leopard Pro-653
-The speaker’s aren’t movie theater grade but then again it’s just a laptop and I’m on headsets almost all the time so the sound for me is great. This wasn’t an issue at all for me personally. (I’m using Monster N-tunes headsets)
-I’ve seen another comment about viewing angles. In general I personally don’t put too much weight on viewing angles although it's for sure nice to have in general. On a laptop I'm almost 100% of the time sitting directly in front of the monitor. The viewing angles are decent and if I want to share what I’m seeing with others, I would simply put it up on my 50”. Personally not a huge issue for me although nice to have.
-The fan noise is slightly higher than what I would've liked but I suppose that's what happens when you are pushing your laptop and making it work so hard. It still did a good job performing though which is the main thing for me.
-The power adapter is on the right side. Granted it’s tucked safely up in the upper right corner I still feel manufacturers should note this more often as the majority of people out there are right handed so having less cables sticking out of the right side of the laptop is psychologically more soothing. I say “psychologically” because technically it doesn’t get in the way of anything for me but is more of a mental thing I guess. MSI, however, at least used a 90 degree cable so it really doesn’t get in the way. It’s just a personal preference and perhaps I’m just a bit too OCD but others may feel the same as well.
-As a bonus it would've been nice to have Gamesense support for Overwatch but that’s not MSI’s issue but rather SteelSeries needs to work with Blizzard on that to make it possible. Still kudos for MSI investing so much into their keyboard and partnering with SteelSeries with all of their gaming laptops.
Pros: GP62MVRX Leopard Pro-653
-First off the RGB keyboard is gorgeous and I like the custom color combinations you can create with it. It looks great especially in the dark.
-Another thing worth mentioning is that MSI keys actually glow from the side which makes a huge difference and is just flat out cool. I don’t think I’ve seen this on other laptops before.
-It works on EPIC settings! I actually played Overwatch on EPIC settings using this laptop and was very pleased with how smooth it ran. It fluctuated usually between 52 to 60 frames per second even in team fights and was at around 40 fps during graphic intensive moments such as explosions. I didn’t feel any major lag at all which is awesome as I really enjoy the Overwatch graphics and didn’t want to tone it down due to graphics limitations. In this case I was pleasantly surprised. (note: I was using V-sync which capped me at 60fps and my rendering scale was at 100%). Temperature wise it actually stayed cool at about 75-77 degrees celsius which is really good. Anything under 90 degrees celsius or below is acceptable in my book. This was within the first 30-45 minutes of play.
-Later I tried it on High settings. I can go up to 115 fps and be at around 80-90fps during firefights which was fantastic. The temperature is at about 82-87 degrees celsius (probably because I’ve been playing for a little while now) which again is still considered pretty good. (this time V-sync was off with rendering scale at 100%). Since V-sync was off, I noticed some minor screen tearing when I pan left to right super fast but that's to be expected when you take off V-sync and I normally don't ever pan that fast even in an first person shooter so it was more of me testing out the system's limits. In the end it didn't effect my game at all.
-Temperature wise overall the laptop stayed decently warm (not cooking any eggs on this one thank goodness!) which leads me to how…
-I can’t say enough about MSI’s cooling design which includes 6 copper heat pipes. This is insane as most other gaming laptops have between 3-4 pipes. You can clearly tell they put a lot of effort into cooling. No sense in having a beefy system if it’s going to overheat and throttle your performance. I definitely don’t have to worry about that here.
-The 256 SSD does it's job and I get straight to my desktop from boot in about 20 seconds.
-I’m also glad that they had the sense to include 1 single 16GB stick of RAM instead of two 8GB sticks of RAM and have included the hard drive bracket as well. I’ve heard of other companies not including this bracket which I imaging would be a pain.
Overall pretty good laptop, gorgeous keyboard and surprisingly good performance on EPIC settings.
