This thing has been *perfect* for my situation. Our landlord mows our lawn for us, and I previously had one of the classic triangular tie-out stakes that stick up about 8 or 10 inches from the ground. Despite having pointed it out to him, he mowed right over it and mangled it, and I can only assume it wasn’t great for the blades either. The lawn has been mowed 5 times since installing this one and I don’t think he even knows it’s there. Sometimes I have trouble finding it myself because it’s so flush with the earth and the grass grows right up around it. I only use it when I’m out there with my dog, just to free up my hands while doing stuff. She’s on a 25 foot retractable leash and I have a carabiner attached to the handle of the leash which makes it really easy to just clip the carabiner onto this ground anchor. The hinge-like design allows the leash to flip from side to side without tangling even if she runs in circles around it.
-I’ve seen other reviews complaining about how hard it is to screw into the ground.- This is true IF you’re just doing it with your hands, but I used the L-shaped tire iron from my car, and with that amount of leverage it was SUPER easy to screw all the way down, (I got the 12”) and it is very securely in the ground. It won’t budge in the least when pulled on. Very very pleased with this purchase!!

10 inch is the best...
The toughest thing about this anchor is screwing it into the ground. I recommend starting with the 10 inch unless it's going to be used in very soft or wet soil. If you can, I also recommend screwing it into the ground when it's wet after (or during) a good rain, especially for the larger sizes.Also, don't be fooled thinking the longer screw is necessarily better. In firm soil, the length of the screw becomes a hindrance in getting it flush to the ground without substantially bending it.I have the 12 inch screw, and I used an 18 inch long bolt cutter as a lever. A small rigid pipe that fits through the loop would work well too. Even still, there is so much resistance screwing it into dry soil that I ended up bending the screw in the process, and I couldn't get it all the way in so it would sit "flat". For my yard and my dog, the 10-inch would be much better, so I have that on order.10 inch - good for firm yard soil12 inch - good for yard soil, if the screw needs to hold when wet (and you should try and screw it in while wet)16 inch - good when the top-material is very lose (like sand) and you're trying to get a bite on something deeper
