Unreliable — Definitely Not For Home Defense

Unreliable — Definitely Not For Home Defense
I needed a lightweight laser sight for a blowgun, that also had a Picatinny rail for attachment of an additional flashlight accessory. This one fit the bill as one of the most compact sights I could find.I ended up having three of these in hand, and all of them had a problem of one kind or another. The first worked great out of the box when I popped the batteries in and turned it on. But when I actually mounted it on my blowgun, it wouldn’t come on at all. The replacement I got wouldn’t work until I noticed that the included batteries I had installed were a bit tarnished. When I installed the spare set of batteries that are conveniently provided, it worked fine. For about 30 minutes that is, at which point I suddenly couldn’t see the laser dot any more. Fortunately I had already ordered some spare batteries that were much better quality, popped them in, and was back in business. A third one of these sights I ended up ordering for another blowgun worked fine, but once again the batteries died after about 45 minutes while I was still sighting it in.Once I had two functional sights and replaced the factory batteries, these little lasers have worked just fine for me. I just checked both now, and several months after I last used them both lit up nice and bright. And they’re very easy to sight in and adjust. However, I feel that I need to rate these honestly by what comes in the box; combined with a bad sight on my first try and the poor battery performance I can’t muster more than two stars. Another factor is that these tiny batteries aren’t something you can run to the corner store and grab off the shelf, so you’ll be waiting days rather than minutes to get up and running. These do come with an extra set of batteries, but those won't last long either. Understanding and accepting these limitations and adding some well-rated LR41 batteries to your order, you can bump that review score up a star or two. While I still wouldn’t trust this product in a life-or-death situation, for blowgunning or plinking it’s done just fine. Here are some additional tips:– Again, you will definitely want to replace the provided batteries immediately with a quality LR41 replacement.– I found it easiest to install the ridiculously small batteries by stacking all three and inserting them together in one shot. If you try to put them in one at a time, they flip around the wrong way like crazy. Also, insert the batteries so you can still see the writing—the manual is totally confusing on this point.– The Picatinny rail is removable for an even smaller and lighter profile. However, the elevation adjustment screw may protrude enough to get bumped out of alignment.– Be careful not to unscrew the laser itself when removing the battery cap—both are held in by identical looking and sized Allen screws!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome little laser!
Reviewed in the United States on August 4, 2018
Pros, all very important to me in a product like this:

- Fits my Bersa Thunder 45 Ultra Compact Pro perfectly and very securely, which is a small-framed pistol.
- Likewise, it's extremely compact, lightweight, and completely out of the way. You won't even know it's there until you need it.
- Piece of cake to mount and sight-in.
- Power button operates with a satisfying, positive click.
- Very bright in normal and (of course) dark room light, more than good enough for home defense purposes.
- Great build, with the body being constructed entirely of aluminum.
- All required allen wrenches are included.
- Battery life seems good, and it even comes with an extra set!
- It's covered by a lifetime warranty.

Following are a few extreme nits that would never have prevented me from buying this product, but in all fairness I wanted to mention them anyway...

Cons:

- Removing the lower Picatinny rail makes it even more compact, but the bottom elevation adjustment screw sticks out a bit if you do, and I'm afraid of moving or losing it. I think a drop of blue, removable Loctite would easily take care of tightening that up. I could just head to the hardware store and find a shorter one, but it's not a big enough deal to even make it worth the trip. Who knows, I might wind up mounting a flashlight there someday anyway, so I just left it on.
- Batteries are a little tricky to get in, but I soon discovered you can easily flip them over to the correct position using the smallest allen wrench which comes with it. I actually like that it uses LR41 batteries, which makes it more compact.
- Logo is upside-down when mounted, wish it were right-side-up so I could advertise the brand name for you!

I haven't had a chance to go to the range and see how it holds zero, but considering the fit and finish, I don't expect any problems there. Since there's a lifetime warranty on this laser, I'm sure if a problem pops up there it will be handled fairly.

I'd definitely buy one for my AR-15, but my scope already has a laser built-in. Heck, I'll probably buy another one anyway, just to have on hand. It's so inexpensive, why not?

This product is 5/5 stars all the way. The only thing I can't figure out is, how Jake can make any money selling these things for this price.

I sincerely thank you for your service to our great country, and a great little laser, sir!

Update 2018-08-14: After using this product for a bit now, I'm so happy with it I just ordered a 2nd one!
