Has all the features you'd want in a pullup bar

Has all the features you'd want in a pullup bar
The bar has the main features I was looking for:1) adequate weight rating, 300lb with heavy duty mounts2) safeguards against coming unseated in all directions, the heavy duty cups ensure the bar will not walk in any directions3) secure locking once bar is extended into place, set screws can be tightened with an allen key and as an added bonus the ends are counter threaded into a single middle piece as opposed to having a joint right in the middleI did have to drill an extra hole in the cups using a 13/64" bit as the pre-drilled holes did not permit me to have 4 screws securely mounted into my door frame with the door closed. I essentially created a vertical line of 3 screws and used one of the remaining two pre-drilled holes (see picture). I used a 1/8" bit to drill pilot holes for the screws. The instruction manual recommends drilling pilot holes but does not specify the size, so use your best judgement. I also installed the bar such that I can reach it on my tip toes without having to jump. Repeated jumping to grab the bar will surely result in more wear on the mounts, so mount it accordingly. I used a level for placing the 2nd mount vs. measuring as door frames are often not square and when you're hanging gravity takes over. If you mount the bar level, you'll have nice symmetric lat development. Especially if you use a mirror to watch your form. I mounted my bar such that I can face a mirror while doing my pullups. After installing, I was very pleased with how solid everything felt. In fact, the only creaking I heard was from my rusty joints. Not from the bar or the door frame. The only downside I can think of is that the cups are permanently mounted and some may consider them an eye sore. I personally will leave the bar up full time as it's mounted high enough that it isn't in the way at all and it's away from my main living space so I don't consider the bar unsightly at all.I'll try to remember to make a follow-up once I've put some reps on this thing, but so far I'm feeling pretty confident it will stand up to my intended usage no problem. I'm a 5'11" tall 200+ lb gym rat so I certainly won't be going easy on it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heavy duty construction, sturdy and thoughtfully designed
Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2018
Very pleased with this pull-up bar. It's a large width bar, made to span larger door frames. Check that minimum dimension, it won't get smaller than that.

The thing is heavy-duty and solid. It has thick silicon pads at the ends that mate into the mounting cups, allowing a certain amount of "squish" factor. This allows you to give it one extra turn to insure good tight expansion pressure into the mounting brackets.

The main bar is 3 main sections, a center tube, and end rods both of which are threaded. You adjust the width of the bar be turning the center tube. When it's good and tight in the brackets, there are locking screws to prevent the bar from turning during use, which could unscrew it over time.

The bar has firm ribbed foam grip across the entire bar, another nice touch compared to smaller or positionable grips. On my old bar I had to use bike handlebar tap to create flexible hand zones.

EDIT: When being used for overhead chin-ups, the metal cup brackets must be used. These cups have 4 holes for mounting into your doorway or walls. The bar-ends fit into these cups and expands to stay in them. There are gum-drop shaped plugs provided which mate with a hollow in the end of the bar providing additional stability and support. For a low-risk mounting position, like a sit-up bar, you could use these plugs alone. But for chin-ups, use the full mounting system of metal bracket-cup, coupled with the center gum-drop shaped plugs.

I had a quick question about mounting, and the seller responded within 8 hours.

5 stars, really pleased. Definitely worth the money
