Smaller than I expected, but he's perfect for my patio table. My smoker friends adore him and were shocked he was an ashtray when I "unveiled" him by lifting his shell. So much nicer, and cuter, than the old coffee can butt can.I don't shun my smoking friends, so having this little guy handy is wonderful! Then when they're not around, I dump the ashtray and he's just an adorable patio table tortoise! Win-win!💜He has a bit of heft, too. The ashtray is deep, which is nice if the wind picks up. That way ash isn't blowing in everyone's faces. Very, very well made. Very well priced!I highly recommend (quitting is best, but I don't harp. Bought it for its look, and while I do smoke (trying to quit), have not used it as an ashtray. with the lift off shell, I may use it for small items, the tray has depth, the shell is snug it won't just fall off, yet lifts easily.

Haven't really decided how it will be used other than to look at. It's current purpose is telling me to give up cigs, and keep it pristine. If it works will be among my best buys ever.

Sure, you could buy a no-nonsense ashtray that looks like an ashtray. But that would be boring. I got this little guy because it looked so cute, and regular ashtrays are “meh.” I got it for outdoor use and the removable lid prevents wind from blowing ashes all over the place. It is really sturdy plastic—probably the same type they make those black plastic ones out of. It has a good feel to it, and it seems like a quality piece of plastic art.
