I've owned the. "Bread machine" brand and it's just as good.
Update: 5/23/17 - I still LOVE my bread machine! Every loaf I have made has been successful. The only one I had trouble with is the gluten-free bread, it's probably not the fault of the machine, it could've been any number of things that went wrong – but I'm not giving up! I ordered a gluten-free bread machine recipe book, so I will be trying those recipes instead of the one that the machine came with. What happened with the one that I made from the machine recipe book, it didn't mix it well enough – and it was hard as a rock actually. LOL – but like I said I'm not going to give up on the gluten-free I will try of the recipes from other books. The other recipes I made from the book that came with the machine all came out fine actually.
8.26.17- my machine started receiving an error message which is very disappointing because I didn't have the machine very long – I went online and filed a complaint like I'm supposed to - and they got back to me in the time frame they said they would – and I received a replacement soon after. So I was wanting to update my review to let you know that even if something goes wrong within the warranty ftime - The customer service was very good to me.

**THE GOOD:** I added back a star because the machine is packaged so well, and so beautifully, you could give it as a gift without adding anything, and drop it from a plane at 33,000 feet to your recipient, and it would arrive intact. I've never seen anything packaged so well, and the box looks like a gift. In addition, the inside box has a handle on top, so you can easily lift it out of the shipper. I normally don't care that much about product presentation (you pay for this, folks!), but this one was so good, I couldn't help but marvel at it.
The recipe and instruction books are in color and look refined, and a good number of recipes are included. The measuring spoons, cups, two bread blades, and two blade removal tools (which work really well!) are a nice touch. The machine is very lightweight, but never traveled as it kneaded. And while the pan makes the type of loaf where the rounded side is at the end of the loaf when it's done (not the top, as an oven baked loaf would be), this means that a larger loaf in the SKG will actually yield more slices of bread. With the pans that have the rounded side on top, you don't get more slices. You get bigger slices. This is an important distinction that no one seems to make, given that the pan type used with the SKG is often viewed as a negative. I consider it a positive.
**THE BAD THAT WOULDN'T HAVE BROKEN THE DEAL:** The machine lid has too much "play" in the hinges. You have to REMEMBER to seat the lid correctly. Just closing it without thinking about it usually skews it sideways and may completely change the outcome of the loaf (I always remembered within a few minutes).
In addition, while I got inconsistent results from the few loaves I made (two from included recipes, two from other books), I think with a little experimentation, it would have been okay. Every machine is different and has its own quirks, including the Hamilton Beach I worked to death. You have to learn your machine. Still, one included recipe gave me a loaf that was about 3" high. That concerned me, as I have a lot of experience with bread machines. The pineapple bread was good and turned out well.
The included measuring instruments didn't actually measure correctly. This might also be why the mfr recommends using those, and not the ones you already have in your kitchen. I think it was the cup and the tsp that were off. And even with the little fractional markings on the side of the spoons (IF you can read them!), it's still hard to measure a fraction of a tsp or TBSP into them. That's why we have 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 tsp measuring spoons in a real kitchen. I didn't use their spoons or cups, which may be why my loaves were inconsistent.
Also, the recipe book is a little too explanatory. Off to the right of an ingredient measured with the tsp, it says, "tsp; teaspoon, the small measuring spoon." And to the right of the other, "TBSP; tablespoon, the big measuring spoon." Wow, are people really that stupid? There were helpful suggestions in that same column, though, such as exactly where to put the yeast, and the correct water temperature.
Your bread slices won't look like the ones in the picture unless you bake it in your oven in a real bread pan.
**THE FINAL RESULT:** I returned my SKG. The smaller loaves were a deal breaker for me. If the description had said "1- to 1.5-lb loaf," I probably wouldn't have bought it. However, I think this machine would work for those who don't need the largest loaves, and it would make a great gift.
