To get it to work correctly you insert the top of the sock onto the sock slider with the heel side of the sock facing downward and pull it on the slider as far as it will go. Then grab another portion of sock and slide it down. The sock will gather like a curtain on a curtain rod. Just keep gathering sock and sliding it down an inch or two at a time until the sock end (the toe) is seen inside at the top of the sock slider cradle.
After you have the sock positioned - slide your foot into the sock slider. I found that after the sock covered half of my foot if I raised the front of my foot, like backing off the gas on my car's accelerator pedal, and then pushed my leg forward the sock cradle would rock slightly and my foot would slide into the sock. To finish, I only needed to remove my foot from the sock cradle and pull the top of the sock higher.
Following that process it worked fine for me. As for getting them off with the included shoe horn - it helps, but is often more difficult for me than putting on the sock. I gave it 5 stars for the ease of putting my socks on even though it takes minutes of preparation and getting them off can still be a chore.
I bought this for him and after he understood how to use it, he is able to put his socks on by himself again. It was great to give him back some of his dignity.
Getting sock was another thing! Did not work at all!!! The long handle that is supposed to easily remove my aock did not work. Keep in mind these compression socks were really stretched off. I ended up digging up my leg and no way would it go over my heel.
This morning I tried a less stretched out compression sock. I could not feed it over the blue thing all the way. One would need long fingernails to be able to grasp the sock to keep pulling it onto the sock cradle. I gave up but tried to get my foot in the sock. The handle would not stay on the “hook” and the process was a disaster! I will have to get my husband to take my sock OFF!!!
I tried to return to Amazon but it is not returnable. If it is broken you have to contact manufacturer. Guess I will donate this item.

Needs a little practice. Not for a person who is mentally slow.
Its not good for travel as it's bulky.
On the whole not as useful as I thought it would be.
