Some other reviewers found that there was a strong odor to the topper that wouldn't go away. I know everyone has their own sensitivities to smell, but I found the odor pretty mild. And after leaving it out to "relax" for about 18 hours, the odor quickly disappeared. I never smelled anything from the time I put it on the bed to this day several months later.
After reading pervious reviews, I was concerned that buying a full size would be too small for my full sized mattress. This is definitely NOT true. I bought a queen size topper and had to cut several inches off the top and side for it to fit. This topper is true to size for your mattress!!
Also after reading previous reviews I was a little concerned that it would be too soft (I bought the 3 inch topper). At first, I found that I did sink deep into it and would find it a little difficult to move around. However, I found this really comforting. I also found that I was so comfortable that I hardly needed to move and shift throughout the night as I normally did. I loved this period of time with the topper. I knew that it wouldn't be this way forever though. The nature of any material like this is that it changes a bit with use. This was no different. If you don't like it at first, give it time. "Break it in" for a few weeks.
After several weeks, I found that I sank in a little less. It was still comfortable and I still have no hip and shoulder pain when I sleep on my side. It is not quite as "squishy" as it once was. Although its still very comfortable I miss how it felt when it was new.
Knowing how this type of material changes, I was also worried about having permanent impressions left in it. I did not want to make the bed and have it look messy because there are impressions so the bed doesn't look smooth. I am so glad to say that after all these months, the topped bounces back to original every time! Despite the weight of body or amount of time spent in bed, the topper always comes back. It may take a few minutes, but it always looks like new.
I have not found this to be any hotter to sleep than on my regular mattress either.
Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase and would recommend this to anyone who is looking for relief from a mattress that isn't as comfortable as it should be. This is an economical choice that has stood many months of nightly use.
I remember two things about the mattress topper I bought in 2017 – it weighed a lot, and it was the most comfortable thing I've ever slept on. It really was like sleeping on a cloud and I actually looked forward to going to bed every night. After a couple of years, it got a small tear in the middle (I toss and turn a lot, even when I'm comfortable) and I switched to a twin bed, so I reluctantly got rid of the topper. For the next couple of years I tried stacking a couple of 1.5-inch toppers to get the same effect, but they kept getting torn. So I finally decided to go back to the same 3-inch topper I had loved so much before.
Right away I noticed the topper weighed much less than before, even taking into account the smaller size. That in itself isn't bad, but it alerted me to the fact that they're using a different kind of foam than whatever they used in 2017. The topper took about 36 hours to fluff up completely, but even after it was completely puffed the texture was just weird and very different from before. It's just stiff and isn't remotely as soft as the 2017 version. When I get up in the morning, there's a huge depression in the middle of the bed that takes several minutes to go away. That's never happened to me with any other mattress topper.
I will admit, I am able to get a good night's sleep. It's just comfortable enough that I may end up keeping it. If it wasn't so bulky and I wasn't so concerned about being able to fit the topper back into the box it were shipped in (I'm disabled, so I might hurt myself trying to squeeze it back into the box) I would definitely return it for a refund. I would like to return it, but I'm not sure it's worth the hassle and the possibility of hurting myself.
UPDATE: After a couple more nights sleeping on this topper, I'm once again feeling back pains I haven't had for a long time. Maybe the timing is a coincidence but I don't want to take any chances. I have removed the topper from my bed. I tried to stuff it back in to the shipping box, but of course it won't fit now. So I can't return it for a refund. Total waste of money and I wish I'd never bought it.
Top reviews from other countries
Here's how it is. I have an old mattress, spring type, with spots where the springiness isn't as strong and so finding a comfortable sleeping position could be a bit of a trial. I probably should just get a whole new mattress, but I'm cheap, and worried about satisfaction... if I'm going to drop a lot of money on a mattress, I want to be sure I'll like it, and I've never really slept on a memory foam long term, and some research suggested that memory foam sometimes had a problem with smelling weird or being too hot--although gel-filled ones like these aren't supposed to be as bad--and what if I get one and get rid of my old mattress and wind up not liking it. Yadda yadda yadda, I was dithering for a long time. Then I decided to take a lesser risk and try a mattress pad, figuring it'd let me try out and see how that heat problem might be... if it turned out to be intolerable, I only spent a little money to find out, and in the meantime, it might help me sleep a little more comfortably.
Boy did it help. The pad isn't super thick (the 2-inches is from bottom to the textured foam peaks I think, so at its thinnest points it's probably half that), but it's good enough to do the job for me and smooth out all the uncomfortable spots in my own mattress. I've had it for a little under a month now, and from the first day I put it on, I've slept loads more comfortably, and rarely wake up in pain like I used to, and am in generally a better mood. I guess I didn't realize just how uncomfortable it was with that old mattress, gotten used to suffering. Like having an egomaniacal sociopath reality TV star as US President, once you don't have to deal with it everyday, even if there are still tons of problems in the world, everything just looks better all around.
My nose isn't particularly sensitive, but I noticed no particular smell (unpleasant or otherwise) and used it the evening I received it (after letting it bounce back from the tight packing for a few hours). No problems with it becoming uncomfortably hot, either, so I guess the gel did its job, although granted I haven't tried it out in the thick of summer yet. If it does become a problem, I'll update. Similarly if it somehow wears out quickly. A month's not a long time to judge a mattress by. But I'm giving it five stars anyway because right now I'm so pleased I bought it.
If I have any complaint it's that it tends to, over a few days, slide off-center from the mattress (even when both are covered by a fitted sheet), but I'm not sure that's a problem a pad like this is responsible for solving, and it's easy enough to pull it back when noticed. If having to do that regularly is the price I pay for such good sleep, I'll happily pay it.
