One of the ones I received had an issue where the hole for the bolt to go through was still rough and had a bit of the metal blocking the hole but I was able to easily file it down. That might be an issue for some, but the overall quality of it otherwise, and the quality of the other two I bought, leads me to believe this was an unfortunate occurrence and not an indicator of a wider quality control issue.
This item is an easy one to recommend to anyone I know who might find use with it
That being said, the one I received was defective...the axil that runs through the roller was missing the spring that keeps it pushed out into the holes of the frame. As such, after very little use (I mean almost immediately), it would slide to one side (inside the roller and out of the holes in the frame) and the head would fall off of the stand. I wrote to the seller and included pics (and one of the mfr code) and right away they sent me a new COMPLETE stand with no hassle whatsoever (I was only expecting a new roller). And they didn't even need me to return the defective roller stand.
I got the replacement stand in a couple days but, now this is a comedy of errors or something, the new one I received was missing a weld on the bottom of the leg where the foot screws into it, so it was wobbly and soon that foot would just break off. That was ok though because I could just put its head (which worked perfectly fine) onto the legs of the first one I got (which were also perfectly fine). So I was happy. But I thought it would be good to let the seller know about the defect so again I wrote and included pics. They apparently REALLY want to have happy/satisfied customers because they, again, right away sent me a new complete roller stand which I ,again, received in only a couple days. Again, no need to return the defective stand.
Man, I can't believe what great customer service!
I always like to buy good quality products and am willing to pay more if necessary, but if I get poor service (no matter how good the product is) I will not order anything from that company again! Conversely, if I get a lemon (even more than once, like with this stand), if I get good service I will absolutely order from that company again. Hey, lemons happen. That's part of the product world we live in these days. No need to get upset about that. But there's no excuse for a business to treat their customers with disrespect.
This company makes really good products at a very fair price, like this roller stand, and they stand behind the products they sell. I will definitely buy more from ToughBuilt.
The fact that this is a roller ball stand is the main reason I bought this. The fixed head and the bar roller had were through ins to me. They may get used. They may not. Bar rollers are of much use for supporting work for woodworking for anything with a fence. They have to be absolutely perfectly aligned or they pull the board away from the fence or jam out into the fence. They would probably be helpful for use with a thickness planer for long, heavy boards or timbers.
Roller balls are the way to go though for use with a fence.
If you are working with long boards or sheet material you will need 2 of them. For sheet material both sides of the cut on the outfeed need to be supported. With narrower sheet material or boards you can use one as infeed and one for outfeed.
If any issues crop up on use I will update.
For YEARS I’ve been either putting my miter saw on the ground or Workmate then fussing around using my saw horses as extensions with longer lumber. I bought this roller (I also have a miter saw stand coming) as an extra pair of hands with the miter saw and when ripping long boards on my Shop Smith. My wife has been my extra hands, but it’s hard for 2 people to move the wood evenly 😉. Today was the first time I have used it and I’m THRILLED with how it works! WHY DIDN’T I BUY ONE YEARS AGO?? Took about 5 minutes to put together with the included hardware and 4mm Allen wrench. Seems sturdy enough for my use. The roller has simple sleeve “bearings” but rolls easily and smoothly. Had to do some more re-sawing today of a PT’d 2x4x8’ and it was a tremendous help catching it as it came off my ShopSmith. Folds pretty flat for storage too. I like the large plastic handle for the height adjustment. I’ll update my review should there be an issue.
