Product Description
The Theta V is light weight 360 Degree spherical camera, it’s easy to use and compact enough to carry everywhere. Enhancements including a new image sensor and Processor for improved image quality Allow the camera to produce more realistic “as-if-you-were-there” 360-degree content. The camera’s new high-speed data transfer is 2. 5 times faster than previous Theta models, allowing users to quickly and wirelessly upload 14 Megapixel stills and high-resolution 4K videos for immediate showing and sharing. Omnidirectional audio recording functionality enables 360-degree audio that is a strong complement to the high resolution video, dramatically enhancing the realism of a scene. The Theta V can connect to and be controlled by any Android or iOS-based smartphone or tablet using the Theta S app. Connection is either via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)-which enables an “always-on” connection between a camera and phone-or Wi-Fi, providing users with greater flexibility in how they wirelessly control the camera. A new and unique feature of the Theta V is that Ricoh will be able to create new functions for the camera via software plug-ins. The first of these plug-ins was developed by Ricoh and is already integrated into the phone. It enables the Theta V to deliver the world’s first remote playback capability in a commercially-marketed, fully spherical camera. The camera has a 4-channel microphone that supports 360 Degree spatial audio recording built into its body. Omnidirectional audio is recorded not just in the horizontal direction, but also in the vertical direction, making it possible to reproduce sound and video as it was in the environment where the video was shot by linking 360 Degree video and audio together. Furthermore, using the dedicated accessory 3D microphone TA-1 (optional) scheduled for launch With the camera will allow users to pick up natural sound with a large volume of information at low to high frequency. Wireless communication protocol (WLAN)- HTTP (Open Spherical Camera API compatible). Battery Life - Still image - Approx. 300 images, Video - 80 minutes.
Shooting Functions :
Noise reduction
DR correction
HDR rendering
Interval shooting
Shooting with self-timer
shooting with multi brackets.

At 19gb it is laughable as to what you can actually record in 4K. You can work around this by attaching the camera to a computer and offloading images. Confusing as to why this is in the day of SD cards, etc. The WiFi implementation is a complete joke but not a deal breaker. The work around for this is simply manually starting and stopping the camera. The WiFi connection is limited to less than a foot before it disconnects. This is horrible but not a deal breaker. The mobile app is a complete waste of time space and effort. Don't even bother using it. Instead connect it directly to a computer to download images. IF the mobile app will even start up it will always crash on you. The connected WiFi speeds (when working) are abysmal at best, a 300 MB file will take up to 45 minutes to transfer, so use the direct connection to the computer.
With these shortcomings this is still one of the best 360 cameras on the market right now. Reliable and the results in both video and audio are stunning. I am already purchasing additional units. With the name Ricoh attached to it, it had better be top notch and it almost is. Highly recommended for both entry level photographers as well as commercial/professional applications. Can't wait for the next model, hopefully it will have more storage!
The mega pixel debate is ongoing, more or less is better? I can honestly say this camera out performs my other which has more megapixels. The images look sharper have less grain and are all around better. So more megapixels don’t equal a better photo. Unless of course you need to enlarge your photo to bill board size. But for my purposes this one hits all the right marks, except of course the red dot of doom, which needs to be edited out.
Over all sharp photos. Not dslr sharp but when you can take a photo edit it. Color correct and upload to social media in about a minute without worry, that is a good workflow easy use camera.
I still haven’t used all the features yet and I don’t know if I ever will. For my needs it’s a winner.
Easy shooting, great app, easy editing, quick workflow .

Another great feature is the option to purchase an underwater housing for it too. Being avid scuba divers, we look forward to trying it underwater on our next dive trip!
