Good tool with modification.
I had the same issue as many other people did with the head coming loose. When it gets loose it tends to fall down towards your grip hand. I fixed this however with a simple solution. I drilled a hole through the shaft and inserted a screw through it with a retaining nut on the other side. Presto now the head doesn't come off and it works as good as I was hoping it would. I needed to dig a 6 inch deep trench around a 24 foot round pool, tool worked great and held up well.I did have an issue with the first one I ordered where the envelope arrived but nothing was in it. Apparently it had fallen out during shipment . It's obviously not a good idea to ship this in an envelope, however it was fulfilled by Amazon and they were very good at issuing a replacement ASAP. The replacement was also shipped in an envelope but unlike the first one it arrived fine. My only two recommendations are that the manufacturer provide a better retention for the head of the tool and that whoever the shipper is uses a box rather than an envelope.

This is a great handpick. Short enough to carry in my backpack when I work in the woods. Balance is great and important if you use a handpick for hours. The bright orange handle is a big plus. I specifically chose the orange handpick after losing my green handpick in a pile of debris and spending 10 minutes digging through the debris to find it.

I been using this a lot while rock collecting. I use to carry a few tools with me, like a crowbar and shovel. After a few trips with this item, I started to realize I didn't use my shovel or crowbar much anymore.

Using the wide end I could make quick work of any dirt or soil near a rock I was digging out. Than I could use the pick side to get in under the rock and pry it out with a decent amount of pressure being careful not to break the pick that is not rated for prying. If the rock still didn't want to move, I would use the wide end and dig a couple more times. This combo has freed 99% of the rocks I have encountered using minimal effort.

It's very light weight and easy to carry with. The bright orange makes it easy to find when you set it down and get a little distracted by...."Oh look a agate"...What was I saying again?

Great price and great tool. Makes quick work of soil or gravel. Can easily chop a trench in a small amount of time with this tool. Cuts most roots you come across with 1 or 2 hacks of the wide end. Overall well worth my money!

EDIT: If you are having problems with the pick coming down on your hands, try to secure it the best you can than try using some super glue around the base. Make a few layers over time and it will not be able to fall down anymore and it will be 100% secure.

This is an excellent, inexpensive tool which works great. I dig up smaller trees for bonsai, in the wild and other places, (with permission of course). A shovel does not seem to dig around roots and rocks easily and this tool does. It exposes and loosens roots and makes lifting the plant far easier.
This is a compact, easy to use and carry tool. It seems well built with a lifetime of use ahead for it.
The handle attachment works well as I have a large, sturdy WW II British surplus pickax which attaches the same way, so I know it works. Having no need to carry mine disassembled, I drilled a hole in the head, drove it strongly into the nice fiberglass handle and put a screw into it. Still able to be disassembled with a little extra work, but the extra security appeals to me. I must say though that the maker's assembly method is wholly adequate.
Delightful little pick that is a pleasure to use. Great product for an unusually fair price. Most highly recommended.

This has to be the most handy dandy tool that I have in my garage or tool shed. It works perfect on jobs that are not big enough to a large pick. For an example, we are installing a water sprinkler system in our backyard. The dirt is like concrete, hard as it can be. Using a big pick is an overkill, but using this small pick, it is great. I put on my knee pads, run a straight line for the trench and within an hour, I was done. No messing around with a big pick to wear out your back, but just git and git. The pick is perfect to dig our a trench around 9 inches deep, just deep enough to lay the water sprinkler PVC pipe down in the ground. We had roughly 40 feet of pipe to lay and like I said, it took right at an hour to dig the trenches. Best 20 bucks I have spent in a long time. Okay, it's made in China. I did look for a pick that size that was made in the USA, but could not find one. So shoot me. I was desperate. Needed to get this sprinkler system in the ground ASAP. If I could have found a USA made, I would gotten that one before thinking of getting this one. Just for the truth of it, this was a blessing. It got the job done and still looked like new when I was done. BTW, I am hard on tools. I get my money's worth. Do I recommend it? You betcha!

If you don't do it frequently, using a full-sized mattock (2.5 lb. or 5 lb. head) can be tiring and it can be hard to maintain any accuracy. This smaller version is just the thing for digging in more of a "one-bite-at-a-time-and-we'll-get-there" mode. Especially in our rocky soil where you spend as much time working out stones as actually taking a new "bite".

I've used it to dig a planting trench and to dig out a root raising some asphalt walkway in preparation for cold patch, and it's been just the ticket each time. Quality is just fine, although I've improved the finish and edges with a file. Handle is sturdy and seems very unlikely to be a cause of failure. The forged head is plenty tough and it holds its edges as well as any tool for digging in dirt. The head locks on the handle taper reliably for use. The price is right and with the easily detachable head when you're through using it, storage is also easier.

Bought as a gift. The 15" refers to the length of the handle and not the actual cast iron pick.
NOTE: You have to pay for the return shipping AND it needs to be returned to the USA. So beware if you are buying anything from HPCMALL and identified under "fulfilled by Amazon".

The delivery was also late.
