About this item

  • MIPS EVOLVE CORE — All Giro helmets are designed to reduce as much energy as possible while meeting and exceeding stringent safety standards. The goal of Giro's Mips Evolve Core-equipped helmets is to reduce rotational forces while enhancing fit and comfort by combining the Mips slip plane with the helmet's adjustable fit system. Giro believes that helmets equipped with this technology can reduce the amount of rotational force that may be transferred to rider in certain impacts.
  • RUGGED: In-MoId Construction fuses a tough polycarbonate outer shell with the helmet's impact-absorbing foam liner. The fusion process allows for better ventilation systems, making in-mold helmets lighter and cooler than traditional helmets.
  • ROC LOC SPORT FIT SYSTEM — The Roc Loc Sport fit system offers easy one-handed operation with a 7cm adjustment range. Its confident clicking feel and sound lets riders know that the helmet is adjusting to a comfortable fit. With comfort similar to Roc Loc 5 and ponytail compatibility, the new Roc Loc Sport fit system brings premium function to sport level helmets.
  • DEEP INTERNAL CHANNELING — Combined with the massive 19 vents, internal channeling forces air to flow over the scalp, providing remarkable cooling power.
  • Quick Link removable visor - Reflective rear decals

Saved my noggin!
This helmet is lightweight, comfortable, and good protection from falls. I chose white to reflect the sun. On a hot humid morning, I biked 20 miles wearing this helmet. Despite stopping 3 times to drink water and eat a clementine, I wound up dehydrated. About a 1/2 mile from the car, I stopped the bike, intent on getting off it. I put my feet down and leaned over the handle bars feeling very sick. The next thing I knew I was face down in the dirt after passing out from low blood pressure. These photographs were taken after the spill. The thin visor had popped off, but it didn't break. Amazingly, I didn't get a scratch on my nose, face, or head, and my neck was fine. I wound up with a scraped knee, huge black and blue on my chest, and 2 bags of IV fluid. The helmet was unscathed. STAY HYDRATED, FOLKS!

4.0 out of 5 stars Register (Left) Comparison to Revel (Right)
Reviewed in the United States on May 26, 2019
I purchased this helmet after the adjustment dial on my Revel broke after about two years. Here are a few notes on notable differences and similarities. I have previously owned Giro Indicator and Transfer models before the Revel so I’m pretty familiar with their offerings in the low-mid range. I’ll be keeping the Revel around as a backup after I super glue the adjustment dial in a static position. Overall I think the Register is a solid option that will likely last you 3-4 years of daily use if you don’t use the adjustment dial often.
Pros:
- Lighter than the Revel, 280g versus 314g, despite the addition of MIPS components. I attribute some of this to the lighter/thinner straps which seem to be of similar strength.
- Comfortable out of the box, with more padding on the touch points. You can see the additional padding in the interior comparison shot.
- Instead of a sticker, the model name is molded onto the rear of the outer shell, which is a nice aesthetic touch.
Cons:
- Has the same “Roc Loc” adjustment system as the Revel. As I noted previously it's easy to use but the plastic components of the dial mechanism won’t stand up to daily use. Set it and forget it if you can. Don’t expect it to last more than a couple years with frequent use.
- Larger overall, which you can also see in the photos.
- The visor attachment is pretty weak compared to older models, without any pins to pop in. Don't expect the visor to stay on over rough terrain.
