A true Gameboy color classic. Out of the 3 gen 2 Pokémon games Crystal is always my go to choice. It has added many more colors than gold and silver as it was built for the Gameboy Color only. And more importantly the added sprite animations, a mainstay of the series until they switched to 3d models in gen 6. Help bring Pokémon more to life like never before. Add in the fact that they gave 2 new types with Dark and Steel. Added in breeding eggs, Shiny Pokémon, split special into attack and defense, allowed you to play as a girl for the first time and a day and night cycle. Plus a 100 new Pokémon and it's easy see why Crystal is many Pokémon trainers favorite Pokémon game.

Now here's what is new for the 3ds version. One they added in online and local trading and battling, yay no more link cables. The ability to transfer them to current gens via Pokémon bank. And finally they added in the Celebi event into the game, that used to be only available via special events. It's clear they took their time to make this as good of a port as possible. If you have an itch to return to the classics I can't recommend crystal version so much. -MickManga

Very fun and with decent replay value. It was nice for a change, although very small, for Nintendo to include Celebi obtainable being the first real opportunity for those of us who grew up being unable to receive the event the first time around back in 2001. Only small complaint is that you can't trade/battle over wi-fi with this title, so it makes completing the game 300% more of a pain. Those who like to play their game and leave their system on a lot or simply putting it to sleep- the best advice I can give you is to TURN OFF your wireless settings while you're playing this title. You can enter the settings without having to close the game and this would allow you to preserve significant power on your handheld. My device died at least 3 times which I had lost some progress because I kept the wireless setting on. Oh and consider turning on stereo mode in the menu settings of the game because by default I believe it is set to Mono- quite a difference.. Although I switched back to mono after a week.

It’s a digital code that lets you play a classic from the Game Boy Color era. Code is easy to put in the 3DS eShop, and everything went well.

The game itself is classic Pokémon gameplay. If you’re thinking about purchasing any of the classic Pokémon games on 3DS, get this one. It’s a bang for your buck, and it even includes content from Red and Blue. Only thing that it doesn’t have is a Pikachu following you around, like in Yellow, but that’s okay. Enjoy it!

It even has online capabilities, as far as I’m concerned. You can also trade with anyone else who owns Crystal, Gold, Silver, Red, and Blue on their 3DS.

It's funny, Pokémon Crystal was the very first item I ever bought off Amazon.com, way back in 2000. 20 years later I get it for the 3DS, since the battery died on my cartridge and while I wait for a new battery in the mail, I decide to get the digital version on 3DS. It's still as fun and relaxing as it was on Game Boy Color two decades ago. Highly recommended for beginners of the series to start with this one.

The code showed up instantly after purchase & I can say this is the best pokemon game ever in my opinion. I used to play this game all the time & glad I can replay it on the 3DS after all these years.

Reason why I like it is because you get 2 full blown regions to explore. The graphics are extremely nostalgic, the Pokémon sprites are nostalgic, & in general it's a rememberable game.

If you haven't played Pokemon Crystal I highly recommend it.

Great classic to revisit. Still 5 stars, but no save states like on an emulator. If you want to start a new adventure in the game you must save over (hence deleting) the previous save file. Pokemon can easily be transferred to another gen 1 or gen 2 game by having two 2ds/3ds systems on the same wifi, visiting a pokemon (trade) center on both games and following the options on the lower screen. One can buy two 2ds systems for the price of one 3ds, which is worth it if you want to trade.

More badges and challenges and less tutorial cut-scenes all the way to the elite four and beyond. At any rate, it all comes down to taste anyway whether you want hands-off or more story. And the protagonist can have blue hair that not even the remake of it didn't bring back.

5 stars for the nostalgia and being able to play my favorite Pokemon generation and play as my favorite Pokemon protagonist (Kris) again. 3 stars for the fact that Nintendo did not make it possible to trade or do Mystery Gifts or anything like that with other players unless they also have a 3DS and you have the hardware to connect the two. Sure that's the same issue we had on the original GameBoy Color, but with the new generation of games, the odds of having a friend playing Crystal are slim to none. It would've been nice if, while making this game 3DS compatible, Nintendo had worked in online trading and battling, too. It's a little depressing not to have those available since they're such an integral part of Pokemon, but going back to Johto in all its original glory is still well worth the purchase.
