A few weeks ago Samsung updated these TVs with AppleTV. Now it’s built in and you can use airplay to stream photos and more to your Samsung QLED. Before I had to use a third party app and it was laggy. With AppleTV it works exactly as you would expect. If you want to stream Facebook live videos from your phone, or anything else, now you can do it!!
Just open Appletv on your QLED, and open airplay on your I device. Then select the Samsung Q6, you’re off and running easy peazy!!
OK, so I have purchased, and owned several flat screen tv's. My first was a Pioneer plasma, back in 2004. It was by far my most expensive flat panel. My biggest is the Epson 5050 projector, which is spectacular. But my favorite is definitely the Samsung Q6. It is my favorite, because it an amazing looking, all inclusive tv. The stainless thin bezel is very attractive. The stand is sleek, and hides cables, and holds the panel in place securely, even on top of a cabinet. Installation of the base is as simple as clicking the feet on to the panel. No tools required, yet it still works perfectly. I was not expecting that, and only installed the base as a hold over, until I got the wall mount installed. but I ended up liking the TV on the base so much, I just left it.
The remote may be the star of the show. It is truly a magical experience, and like no remote I have ever used. It has only a few buttons, but yet seems to do everything, and its fairly intuitive, though there may be a bit of a learning curve, for some, because of hidden feature buttons. What is magical is that anything connected to the Samsung by HDMI, is magically learned by the remote, and then is easily controlled. The remote is not hindered by line of sight either, so you can tuck your Roku, or DVD player away in a cabinet, and it will still work fine. the remote does not have to be pointed at the tv either, it will work under the covers, if your are comfortably snuggled under a blanket, and don't want to reach out, no worries, the remote will work under there too. Sadly if you drop the remote in the couch, and then sit on it, it will also control the TV, and potentially change your show, beware.
Like the remote, the display is magical. The resolution is phenomenal, the colors are bright, and vibrant, exactly what I would expect from something as hyped as the QLED. I watch a lot of HGTV, which is definitely not filmed in 4K, however the upscaling is very good. Perhaps to the point that you can see little imperfections, that the producers would have rather kept hidden. I watched the NHL finals, not really a hockey fan, but being born and raised in Missouri just an hour from StL, I wasn't going to miss history. The colors, and resolution just popped off the screen. The fast action was clear and smooth. I am so overly excited for football season. Patrick Mahomes bazaooka mode is going to explode off of this screen. I may never walk upstairs and watch football on the 110 inch theater screen again. This Samsung is my favorite.
Now it is not entirely perfect. The Q6 is a smart TV, so you dont need a Roku, or apple TV, or firestick. I have those plugged in, and they work great, but it also has all the smart apps built in, like Hulu, prime, movies anywhere, and so on, so I can access my programming that I subscribe to, directly. However, Hulu live almost always has to be accessed twice. The first time it will lock up, and then I have to back out and go back in. i don't know why it does this, but it seem sot be pretty consistent. its a small issue, and if it overly bugs me, Ill move my Apple $K tv form the theater I'm no longer using, to the Samsung, or just use the firestick, or any of my other options. So it's a small issue, but when your spending a Thousand bucks or so, its good to know the whole truth.
I know my review is overly positive, and it is important to note, I paid the full advertised price, and I still love it. When I pay full price, I tend to have higher expectations. Now full price for this model, is much more reasonable, as it is last years model, so it is discounted, but that price is available to anyone. At the current list price, I can not imagine finding a better value. Its a few hundred dollars more than the black Friday specials, that are guaranteed to disappoint, yet its a full featured, nicely spec'ed out tv. Throw an 82 inch on the wall, and you'll never go to a movie theater again.

I also didn't use the TV's internal speakers, but disabled them, since my audio is going to my surround sound speakers. So I can't speak to how well those work.
But when it comes to the picture, it's amazing. Well, out of the box, it's terrible, but only in the same way nearly every high-def TV is -- they set them to Vivid or Dynamic, some settings designed to catch the eye in a visually noisy Best Buy under bright fluorescent lights, but look awful at home, with an odd jerky motion and harsh colors. Change to Movie mode, and it's ten times better. Then disable all the "smart" signal processing and automatic image changing settings, and it's even better. 20 minutes with the Spears & Munsil calibration disc led to a few small tweaks to color, balance, tint, etc. and it's even better yet. All the benefits of OLED (strong colors with sharp contrast and fine variations in shading, for instance) without the disadvantages (high cost, burn-in issues, and poor blacks). 4k video is breathtaking, and even older video upscales amazingly well (we were stunned at how good old ST:TOS looked), though of course, no force in heaven or earth can make 70s BBC footage look like anything but 70s BBC footage.
Also, bafflingly, the TV comes on streaming some YouTube-like source that has some of the worst image quality imaginable. Way to go, guys. It ought to come up showing some breathtaking 4k footage, not blocky, poorly edited video taken with an old phone.
I can well imagine the apps are not great. The remote is pretty bad, the menus are a bit clunky to navigate, Samsung's online presence (probably pretty smooth if you already have a Samsung phone and thus accounts) is oddly broken (I had to create one account to get the TV set up, but couldn't link it to Samsung's cloud, so needed a second one to be able to show images), and I can see how the apps seem determined to push you to buy content from Samsung. But all it takes is a Roku (price: drop in the bucket compared to the cost of this TV) to avoid all that. Just consider it part of the price of the system, just like you would HDMI cables or a mount.

Physical set-up is rather simple, as well as the very intuitive on screen instructions for initializing the myriads of options on the menu. The most difficult of all was to get used to the remote control functions. It took 20 minutes to properly operate the sound volume up/down function and we still are learning other control as we go.
Picture quality is as you would expect when watching regular cable channels. It shows what it's capable of doing when viewing high res. sources. Very pleased with purchase would recommend it to TV watchers who want an affordable Ultra High Res. capability smart T.V.
