Why Would Anyone Buy a Different Fire Tablet?
When Amazon says this is the same as the adult version they are not kidding, well save for the hideous child case and if this is for a child that thing is great. I have a smaller (7-inch I believe) one that I bought for my son when he was 3. The tablet is still in great shape no scratches or anything and trust me he dropped and abused that puppy as a toddler does. But back to the HD10. The reason I don't like tablets is I find them to be too small for me to comfortably utilize. (I too had the smaller version as my toddler, gave that to his father to use as the screen size didn't work for my eyes and fat fingers). So when I saw they had a 10 inch, I was like yeah baby. I knew from my earlier version that I could indeed get Chrome, Play Store, etc. All the things I need to make an electronic device work for me.I'm not a tech gal so I cannot compare to other tablets, but when I have it sitting on my desk I use it as a tv and stream my favourite shows to watch as I work (I telecommute so I need something going in the background. I get the same quality picture on this (to my untrained novice eyes) as I do on my 55-inch television. As long as I have good wifi (and I do since both the significant other and I telecommute so we have business internet) no lagging or anything.I bought this because I hate having to lug around a laptop, I find it to be too big and bulky, I use public transportation and my 17-inch laptop is not fun to travel with. I hooked this bad boy up via Bluetooth to a full-size wireless keyboard and wireless mouse, and of course my actual Bluetooth headphone, which is how I typically listen to the tablet. So I'm able to use great. As you can see I downloaded all my cute little Chrome apps. The description says it does not include Alexa hands-free but mine does. This means I can give my Echo Dot to my son and not purchase a new one for him.If I had bought the adult version it would have come with only a 1-year warranty and not the great two-year total warranty, including a cracked screen. It is the exact same tablet with the exact same tablet. I know as I bought the adult version too, and returned it after I confirmed they were the same. I have since ordered a second one for my toddler who is now 6. He loves mine so much he doesn't like his small one anymore. At this point in time the adult version is about $30 cheaper, but with the two-year warranty on the kid's version, I say it's worth the extra $30.Oh yeah the one I had that I gave to my S.O. , well he managed to crack the screen after the two-year warranty expired but is still able to use it today (it's now almost 4 years old) so when the 2nd one arrives he'll get the kiddo's rejected small one.

My son adores this tablet! We keep him limited to the time he spend on it because he is just under 3 years old so he only gets to use it a few times a week for an hour, maybe two if he is lucky. Usually a little in the morning and a little before bed.

We read books on it, play educational games and he has access to SO much with the Kids Free Time feature. He loves Daniel Tiger so those are the games he gravitates toward the most, but he also enjoys browsing with me through all the free books and occasionally we will let him watch an episode of Blippi on there.

The tablet itself is really lightweight so it is easy for him to hold, the screen is very clear and good quality and we have not even begun to touch the surface of all the features and what this thing can really do.

The battery life is decent, but we do usually have to plug it in after a few hours of play, especially if he is using the interactive videos, it does drain the battery.

I know some of the Grandparents may give you some heck for allowing your kids to use so much technology, but I look at it this way. If it's for educational reasons, that is always a good thing. And what they do not seem to grasp is that the younger kids can learn about the uses of technology, the better because many kids are using tablets in school these days and almost every job out there involves being technology savvy so getting your young child used to respecting, taking care of and learning how to use simple technology such as this, is a good start and will prepare them for things like computers, smartphones and other gadgets we use and need to know how to use now. It is pretty much a required skill in any career they could ever want to have. The Fire HD 10 Kids Edition Tablet is the perfect way to begin introducing them to that world after the baby and infant toys have become a thing of the past! So that is something to tell the worrisome Grandparents who believe you are destroying your kids brain cells!

But yes, I am glad I went with this tablet instead of the Samsung, which was my second choice. My friend actually bought the Samsung for her daughter and after playing with Thorin's Amazon Fire she regretted buying the Samsung! So do yourself a favor and go with the Amazon Fire, do not buy the Samsung!!! I really have NO complaints about this tablet. My son loves it and my husband and I love to interact and play with him while he discovers new things and learns on it!

The "Kids Free Time" costs $4.99 a month after the free year trial and $2.99 a month for Prime Members and it will definitely be something we will be keeping! Just an overall wonderful Kids Tablet with stuff for us adults too, I can do all my shopping, login to my account, set limits, passwords, watch my videos, use my Prime, make different profiles, it literally does everything! You can't beat what you get for the price!
