I was expecting difficulty pairing the joysticks from the reviews I’ve read. The directions to pair are incomplete. After a quick visit to the Atari website, you have to push the joystick up, hold the fire button, and replace put in the batteries simultaneously. Once I did that it paired right away. The controllers are not quite as sensitive as I would like and due to the wireless nature, lag slightly.
PROS:
It’s 2:15 in the morning and I am so excited I took a break from game play to write this review. It’s like reliving my childhood. It has all of my favorite games from Pitfall, River Raid, Tempest, and Frogger to Keystone Kapers. I had forgotten how much fun these games are. The game is easily hooked up and everything needed is in the box with the exception of 4 AAA batteries for the joysticks. Picture quality isn’t bad on my 55 inch HDMI TV, (unless you are expecting XBox type quality then you will be disappointed).
FINAL THOUGHTS:
Overall, I’d say it is definitely worth the price for the console. It brings back many great childhood memories. After some research, original Atari 2600 paddles will work with this console, so I have ordered those so I can play the paddle games. The instructions are quite lacking, but nothing Google can’t fix. I was on the fence after reading some of the reviews, but decided to take a chance and I’m glad I did. It was worth it! Happy Gaming!!!
It is missing PacMan but 2600 PacMan sucked anyway. All my old faves are included. I love this system and play it constantly.
The interactive menu is nice - allows you to look through the list of titles and choose the game you want easily - still disappointed they don't have pac man
Could not be easier to install
To be truly what it needs to be they need to make the interactive menu continue into the game so you can select your game options as easily as you select games - originally you had to toggle through the game version numbers to select the game options you wanted (or the combinations of game options) to keep track of these each game came with a booklet describing the game options and included a chart so you could toggle to the version you wanted for the right combinations of game options - this uses the same method without giving you any clues as to what those game options are (you can usually find the charts on line with a Google search - I cannot say if there are descriptions of game options available on line) - brief explanations of game options should be available as well as interactive methods of selecting preferred game options rather than the old format for future releases if they ever expect to sell any once us old folks who buy them for nostalgia all die off
A video posted by "BigGoofyRunner & Family" gave the following instructions:
1. make sure controllers and console are turned off
2. press and hold the fire button while pushing the joystick up
3. keep holding the button and the joystick while turning on the controller - light should start flashing blue
4. once it is flashing you can let go of the button and the joystick
5. while the light is flashing, turn on the console
6. after a few seconds the light will turn blue on the controller and the controller and console will be
