Product Description
The Max Burton 6450 Digital Induction Cooktop is portable, easy to use and energy efficient! With induction cooking, your cookware is heated by a magnetic field inside of the cooktop. Therefore; the cooktop will self-adjust to the size of the cookware being used and you are not heating the air around you. There is no open flame or exposed heating element to burn people or surrounding items, making this ideal for young and old. The Max Burton 6450 Induction Cooktop is lightweight (6 lbs.), plugs into any standard household outlet and has an easy to use LCD touch screen. This cooktop can be used as a primary or secondary burner in the home, dorm, office, boat, RV or gourmet kitchen. It is great for entertaining, holidays, outdoor parties and as an extra cooking space. This is also a fantastic option for food service industries where non-NSF equipment is permitted.

Compatible Cookware
Not all cookware is compatible with induction cooktops. The pan must have ferrous iron content in the bottom in order for induction cooking to work. The "Magnet Test" can help you know if your cookware can be used with induction cooktops. Inside this product is a small kitchen magnet. Place the magnet on the bottom of the cookware, if the magnet holds, it is compatible. In the event that the cookware is not compatible our 6010 Induction Interface Disk can be used.

Original review: I have been searching for the best induction cooktop for months. The older, tried and true Max Burton 6400 has received excellent reviews, however, Max Burton has just launched the newer model 6450 that is an improved version of the 6400. The primary improvements are:
1) glass cooktop surface extends all the way to the sides of the cooktop ( no more exposed plastic).
2) The model 6450 is lower profile and lighter weight and retains all the 1800watt power and precise control panel features of the previous model.
3) This new model is very quiet. The fan has less than half the noise as compared to my old Tramontina induction cooktop.
My experience...
..Arrived 48 hours after order placed (excellent).
..Works good right out of the box.
..one touch boil feature works great.
..As a test, I set digital temperature control at 225 deg F and 2 qts water came to boil in just a few minutes. Then I lowered the temperature to 200 deg F and the water stopped boiling as expected (water boils at 212 deg F). This short boil test affirms the good temperature control for boiling and simmering. My old Tramontina induction cooktop from Costco does not control the boil temperature as well as the Max Burton 6450.
I used both All-Clad copper core and All-Clad HA1 non stick cookware for my first cooking experience with the Max Burton. HomeGoods, Marshall's and TJMaxx sell All-Clad cookware at half price, but if you are on a tight budget, T-fal ProGrade Titanium Nonstick Thermo-Spot cookware is induction compatible at a budget price (Sold on Amazon also). Max Burton also included a refrigerator magnet that can be used to test cookware for magnetic compatibility with induction cooking. The box that the induction cooktop was received in has a nice handle for use as a carry case for travel. When we go to winter ski resorts, we bring the induction cooker to use in the hotel room. This cooktop runs cool and safe. Hotels don't allow hot plate cooktops for fear of fire. The Max Burton cooktop does not present any fire risk, as such, most hotels have no problem with induction cookers. I highly recommend the Max Burton 6450.
PS: I considered the NuWave PIC Titanium, however, the NuWave costs double the price of the Max Burton 6450. The few added features of the NuWave PIC offered no added value for cooking. The Duxtop brand has less performance and is bulky. At $89.00 (free shipping) the Max Burton 6450 offers the best value. I rated this induction cooktop five stars, but four stars for durability only because Max Burton makes a ruggedized commercial Induction cooktop that reserves the five star durability rating. The 6450 is built very solid and looks great!

Through research we learned this Max Burton burner 6450 will support up to 50 lbs. Check. It also needed adjustable heat. Check. And a timer is an absolute must. Check. Read the instructions and this thing is very easy to use.
Our test run of this burner and induction compatible Presto went great! We were able to can 21 half pint jars of sockeye salmon without a hitch. Our total weight of the canner and contents was 45 lbs. We elected to use the temperature mode vs. heat mode. We set the initial heat at 375 degrees until pressure reached 11 PSI. Being this was the first time we used this burner, we were learning on the fly, and slowly reduced heat in 50-degree increments as necessary. We settled on 200 degrees, which maintained pressure right at 11-12 on the pressure gauge. We set the timer at 110 minutes in our case, monitored the pressure (learning phase!) throughout the process. At completion of the timing phase, the united beeped several times and shut completely down as it is supposed to do.
And that loud, annoying beep function on the burner? They must have corrected that, because it was a much more subdued, quiet beep on our unit!
We can't speak for long-term durability, of course. But it did exactly what we wanted/needed it to do. I will provide an update in a month or so after our coho (silver) salmon trip.
Quick update: We got to use it this past September in Valdez during our annual silver salmon adventure. And just like during the test run, it worked great while churning out dozens of full pint/half pint jars, and we were able to use it outside without a hitch!

The great: heats my MadeIn pots and pans to temperature in seconds to minutes. Can wipe it down with a glass cleaner and have it shiny. Buttons are very self explanatory.
The ok: it is big than it looks in the pics, but that makes it wide enough to find good stability.
The bad: it will get you to a temp fast, but it seems to overshoot some. 5-10°F isn't that big a deal for nearly all my cooking, but you won't be able to use it like a sous vide.
