1) There is no stop button, only pause. Most of us use the PS4 to watch other things from sources in addition to Vue. A stop button is useful and missing here.
2) The circular cluster of buttons at the top of the remote seem awkward at first. Finding direction arrows versus accidentally pushing a PS4 "shape button" like circle happens a lot at first. After a while you get used to the arrangement, but this could have been designed better.
3) Like every remote PDP has ever put out, the build quality isn't great. I honestly can't figure out why Sony continues to outsource to these guys as the ONLY producer of official remotes for the PS4. Could you imagine if Samsung or LG did this on a flagship TV?? Unfathomable. But here we are. Otherwise the remote is a tad too small and not grippy enough. If you have leather furniture it will slide right off the arm rest into the cushions.
All in all, while not perfect, this is the best attempt to date for a proper TV remote to control media on the PS4.
Psst Sony, PLEASE, make your own remotes for the PS5!!!
Comes without batteries ($30 bucks doesn't pay for that), and you end up with a very basic remote which can control your PS4, and your volume & on/off on your TV.
"Universal" obviously means "As long as your setup is PS4 plugged to its own TV, and nothing else".
The absence of a Channel - + button should have been a telltale sign. Too bad I trust advertised hype rather than critical thinking
NO control of extra devices (cable boxes, sound equipment), NO ability to add anything else but your TV. What a joke.
I wonder why they kept the Input button - to switch the TV away from the PS4, then remind you to pick whatever other remote you need to do anything else ?
I'll punish myself by keeping it to remind me to do my homework next time.
However, this only allows the buttons for the PS4 and PS5 to be controlled. The TV buttons will not control volume, power, input, unless you use the PDP Cloud Remote App to program it. The app is free, but it does NOT exist on the PS5 store (as of December 2022) and I doubt they'll add it, since this is marketed for PS4.
The workaround, for this remote to control the TV, was something I decided to try because I still have my PS4. If you don't have a PS4, I don't know of another method, unfortunately. If you do have a PS4 and want this to work on your PS5 + TV, read on.
1. Pair this remote with your PS4 first. If you already paired with PS5, unpair/delete from PS5 (you'll re-pair it later)
2. Download PDP Cloud Remote App in PS4 Playstation Store.
3. Launch app and complete process to program TV buttons. You can now use your TV volume, power, and input buttons. The remote will retain this code, and control your TV, even after you unpair from PS4.
4. Unpair/Forget Device on PS4.
5. Pair PDP Cloud Remote on PS5. Now ALL buttons should work for PS5 and TV!
There is another remote, designed specifically for the PS5. It's a decent option if this remote doesn't work for you. It just doesn't have the TV input button, or the Playstation controller buttons. It has buttons to launch apps instead (Netflix, Disney, Spotify, YouTube) It all boils down to what functionality you're looking for.
Hope this helps!
