Tipps: Mice are not afraid of Mouse trap by nature. But after seeing other Mice getting caught, they may start to avoid the trap. The caught mouse would be terrified and scream for help. Other mice will be scared and tell the companions not to take the bait again. So after catching and releasing a mouse, please clean out the trap as soon as possible.

Setup seems fine. I didn’t do it personally so can’t elaborate there. The trap is definitely sturdy and big enough for the average plump rodent. Set the trap in a dark, quiet, out-of-the-way corner; use peanut butter; and be patient (and check it often). We suspected a rat in the garage and I scoured the local hardware stores and Amazon for a decent humane trap to safely capture and remove the unwanted garage guest. It took about 5 weeks—I think due to a combination of suboptimal bait (a plain, unadorned walnut, the mostly waxy end of a hunk of months-old parmeggiano reggiano) and a rather clever rodent. We tried a few different spots in the garage until we finally—in the final week leading to capture—found a sweet spot tucked away in a dark corner close to the wall and some heavy duty food jars. Also, peanut butter. Yes, I’d read all the reviews suggesting PB as bait. But because I hadn’t set up the trap myself, I didn’t feel like fumbling with the bait. Finally, though, we went nuclear and slathered the old hunk of cheese with a hefty dollop of quality PB. A few days later, as the saying goes, we got ’em.He was a chonky heifer and made quite the stir once inside, his temporary involuntary detention surely an unwelcome surprise. “Do you have any idea who I am? You’ll hear from my lawyer about this!” Thankfully the trap was sturdy enough to withstand his furry fury. And he had plenty of PB to stress-eat during his very short detention. Before his attorney could say “habeas corpus,” the rodent was released pursuant to our routine capture and release program at a nearby wooded area. Operating the release door was easy, but the rotund rodent didn’t want to leave. He’d eaten well and stayed relatively warm in our garage for several weeks. I don’t blame him. But it was time to part ways, and we wished him well. With a little encouragement, he waddled his podgy rump out of the cage and into the wild, like a corpulent, furry Emile Hirsch. “Enough with the fat jokes,” he protested as he scurried off. “I’m just big boned.” Sure, Jan.We are very pleased with this rat trap and recommend it for the humane capture and release of unwelcome rodentian guests.

Update: I’ve had this cage for 2 and a half weeks and caught 8 squirrels. A few curious birds too. I’ve had to repair the hook trigger mechanism where it attaches to the top of the cage several times from the thrashing but it’s easy enough to do with wire and some needle nose pliers so far. The thin wire of the cage has broken and deformed in a few spots. Leaving it out in the rain makes it a little crusty. Considering my short term needs and the low price point, this has been a great buy. Awesome for squirrels. Bait tip: ritz cracker.

Original: Got this to relocate some destructive squirrels at my house to other treed areas I do not live in. The first day I caught two birds (or one dumb bird twice) and then the next day I got a squirrel. The squirrels would jostle the cage or jump on it and then trigger the trap but if you’re tenacious and keep setting it you will get one. Squirrel was in it maybe 30 minutes and a few of the metal parts were bent from chewing but nothing was broken. He certainly couldn’t escape. Great trap.

I set two open traps in my attic with no bait and left them for a few days.
Then I set some whole peanuts in the shells around it and inside it without setting the trap and left that for a day or two.
I wedged a whole roasted peanut in the shell on the bait hook and set the trap.
I got a rat within six hours.
I got another rat the next night.
For now, no more rats.
I'll leave the traps open but not set and bait and set when needed.

UPDATE:
4 months later, I've caught about eight rats. I keep the traps closed with peanuts inside in the same place all the time. When I hear rats in the attic, I just go up and set it and I get a rat every time. Two nights ago I got a rat and I could hear it it making a terrible racket as it thrashed around in the trap. When I went up to get it, the trap was 5 feet away from where it had been and the rat was gone. It had thrashed around until it flipped the trap upside down which allowed the door locking arm to slip down and the door to be simply pushed open. So I reset the trap and wedged it under a pipe. Last night the rat came back, got the peanut, thrashed around for several hours but couldn't escape.

Easy to bait... hair trigger that captures your vistors... and easy to release in the wild.
Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2019
I loaded the hook with about 1/3 teaspoon of peanut butter. I set the trap, next to the hole I found that they were going in and out of, in the garage. The next morning there was a tiny 2-inch brown mouse in the trap, sleeping after eating almost his own weight in peanut butter. Later on that day, I took him to a lake area to set him free. I was surprised to see such a small mouse could get caught. Because of the design of the hook, as part of the pivot that triggers the trapdoor. Even if they touch it with their nose, they will get trapped. The only thing I didn't count on was that under the trap, were all kinds of mice excrement which I will have to clean up with bleach because of the possible diseases.

UPDATE: (Do Not! clean this with bleach and water), it will destroy the finish, the base metal smells like old tin cans. This smell will stop the mice from entering and using the trap. This trap was working FANTASTIC each morning a mouse. Then it got messy with mice poo and pee so i cleaned it. Then Nothing, no more mice, but i placed a bit of peanut butter very close to the hook and they eat that so I still have mice they just wont go in the trap any longer. I will have to purchase another trap and dispose of this one. I should have known the finish on this would be so thin i couldnt disinfect it. Changing from 5 stars to 3stars because its not durable ** its very effective at catching mice ** but i dont know if you can safely clean it without causing the base metal from being exposed.
