Well built, needs a little work for small bait
4 Stars
Well built, needs a little work for small bait
Bait entrance hole is fairly large, but can easily be tied off with fishing line to make it harder to escape for smaller fish. I turned the one large opening into 4 smaller openings (see picture). Also the green string used doesnt pull and stay tight. Glue the knots to keep them from loosening up over time (see picture). Otherwise this is a nice trap for the price. I consistently get more minnows in my collapsible net traps than I do in the old style wire traps. The net used on these is strong and they are larger than my older collapsible traps.

1.0 out of 5 stars These rust quickly
Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2020
I was really excited when I got these. Great design and size. Fantastic price. The openings are perfect size for crayfish, and the design which closes the openings when there is no pressure is great.
There are two minor issues: 1. They are super-light, so take a long time to sink, and will drift quite a bit if there's a current. 2. The little bags for bait are great if you're using pellets, but don't work well with pieces of fish. The fins catch on the mesh and fish heads often don't fit in the tiny bags.
There is one major issue: After using these once (two days in the cold fresh water of a clean lake) they're rusty. And they're not just a little rusty, but so rusty that the rust rubs off on other things the cages touch. These cages won't last. I'm including a photo comparing these cages, with their rust, to the 20 year old cages I also have. I'm guessing these cages were made with something other than stainless steel.
I bought 10 of these cages. I'm guessing they'll last 1 or 2 seasons before the rusting thin metal starts breaking from fragility. When that happens, I'll make sure to check for 'stainless steel' as I buy a next batch of cages.
