Customer reviews
Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Customers are mixed about the performance of the robotic vacuum cleaner. Some mention that it performed adequately, while others say that it's brittle and does not do as good a job as advertised. The app is very basic and has limited functionality.
"...The app is great but it doesn't have any function similar to a remote control...." Read more
"...Surprisingly useful." Read more
"...You can only start a new job.5. There are too many issues using the application...." Read more
"...fall they replaced my unit which I appreciated but the problems were basically the same. It did fix a few minor issues though...." Read more
Customers are mixed about the cleanability of the robotic vacuum cleaner. Some mention it does an excellent job cleaning, helps keep the entire floor clean, and has a self-emptying dustbin. However, others say that it can't perform a simple, short cleaning twice in a row, is pretty random in cleaning the house, and there's no easy way to empty the dust bin.
"...One of the main reasons I got it was the ultra high vacuum, but I do not need it for the hard surface areas and like to clean at a lower power daily..." Read more
"...The basic hardware of the unit seems fine so far, and it cleans well, and the bin is easy to service...." Read more
"I tried running this w/o calibrating it and it was pretty random in cleaning the house...." Read more
"Overall it’s a great robot vacuum with some room for improvement. This is our first Roomba/smart vac...." Read more
Customers are dissatisfied with the navigation capabilities of the robotic vacuum cleaner. They mention that it has sub-par capabilities and can't figure out how to navigate. Some customers also report issues with the bumper. The vacuum is crippled by its abysmal VSLAM-based navigation, which does not accurately map rooms and constantly gets lost.
"...one of the rooms is not mapped...." Read more
"...The device generates numerous errors, making it extremely frustrating to use...." Read more
"...The mapping is far more accurate and detailed than the i7. This means better granular control over the no go zones and boundaries...." Read more
"...Seemed like it never could map the layout right, and would often not know how to leave a hallway. This then sent me an alert it was stuck...." Read more
Customers are dissatisfied with the sturdiness of the robotic vacuum cleaner. They mention that it broke after 3 months with no solution, the brushes wore out and fell apart in less than a month, and the device failed. They also mention that there are numerous issues with the product and that it'll crash.
"...There are numerous issues with the product, and the last one I experienced proved to be the deal breaker.1...." Read more
"...Last week my new one started going out and it would drive to the room it was supposed to do, go back and forth a time or two ...like 1-2 minutes and..." Read more
"...Despite its excellent suction capabilities, it suffers from a significant internal flaw that has never been resolved, even with software updates...." Read more
"...Brushes wore out and was falling apart in less than a month. I don't want to buy new brushes for it every month...." Read more
Customers are dissatisfied with the quality of the robotic vacuum cleaner. They mention that it has too many problems with errors and device failures. The app fails with various errors and the software has a ton of bugs. It works fine on carpets but performs horribly on hardwood and tile. It is not 100% perfect and quite annoying that you need the virtual walls.
"...It collects hair in the rollers and you'll need to remove it long before you'll need to empty the big dock (5 stars for picking up hair!)...." Read more
"...to the point where the machine takes 10-20 minutes of the app failing with various errors, trying again, and rebooting the vac before I am able to..." Read more
"...The device generates numerous errors, making it extremely frustrating to use...." Read more
"...As you can see the S9 was not up to the task and left a lot of hair on the carpet. Non shag carpet is not a problem and vacuums quite nicely...." Read more
Customers are dissatisfied with the noise produced by the robotic vacuum cleaner. They mention that it is fairly loud on medium and high power, and keeps loudly announcing an error. The motor doesn't sound right, and you can hear little bits rattling around inside the wheels. The light turns red and it starts chirping "Error 31"; contact someone.
"...CONS:- fairly loud on medium & high power (low power is about as loud as Neato) - though once I'm no longer working from home 5 days/week this..." Read more

"...It's going back, certainly not worth the money." Read more
Customers are not satisfied with the stickiness of the robotic vacuum cleaner. They mention that it gets stuck frequently, everywhere, and on carpets. Some say that the suction is not as strong as they would like, and the product looks not as good as the S9.

I bought It as a replacement of an older model, the 880, but I must say that it is quite noise although by far cleans better.
The app is great but it doesn't have any function similar to a remote control. Recall that the 880 came with remote control as well as virtual lighthouses.
If I have to recommend you to buy it, do it! You will not regret it.
1. There is a design defect with the lid closing sensors. My device has begun throwing an error 45 (close the lid) at random over the past few days. In the middle of a job it will happen, or even just sitting on the charging base. Customer support intimates I have to clean the contacts as debris could impact the connection — that’s a true statement but is not applicable for me: there’s never been any dirt there. I just open the lid and close it and the error goes away for a time. I’ve cleaned the contacts after that suggestion and it still happens. Quite irritating when this error pops up and the robot is under the bed...
2. After three attempts to remap the house (a process which takes roughly 6 hours to complete each time in my single story home), one of the rooms is not mapped. I cannot seem to get it to map that room and there is no method to tell the robot to re-explore an area. The only recourse is to delete the existing map and start over. When you delete a map, you also must delete any scheduled jobs (as they are associated with the map).
3. The battery on the unit is not sufficiently large for the robot to complete a cleaning pass on our house. We have a home that’s mostly hardwood floors except for the four bedrooms. Our floor plan is roughly 3500 square feet. It takes the robot approximately six hours to clean the entire house (minus the one bathroom it refuses to map). That time includes three recharges.
4. If a cleaning job is interrupted due to an error (like the recurring lid problem my unit experiences), there seems to be no way to resume the job. You can only start a new job.
5. There are too many issues using the application. Often times I try to start a job, and the app does not seem to register the fact, so I try again until it does. Sometimes after the first try I’m present with an error back on the main screen where you launch the clean job. In those cases, the app had to timeout whatever it was doing before I can try to initiate a clean job. Sometimes that timeout takes many minutes!
There are more issues, but I’ve highlighted the main ones that frustrated me. I wanted to love this product. Instead, I’m now very disappointed and experiencing extreme buyers regret.
Avoid this generation of the robot.
Two big difference:
1) The sensor system on the S9 is better and it soft touches or doesn’t hit anything. The i7 hard hit everything even after cleaning the camera and sensors.
2) The mapping is far more accurate and detailed than the i7. This means better granular control over the no go zones and boundaries.
The suction power adjustment feature is very nice and you can do a quiet clean at night. I ran the i7 and then the S9 on the same spots and the S9 picked up what the i7 didn’t.
I will say on redocking the i7 is quiet and the S9 sounds like a helicopter taking off...not sure why but once I figure it out I’ll update how to change that.
The S9 has much better corner control and navigation, it slows down in tight spaces to be thorough whereas the i7 didn’t.
It’s a lot more money but a much better system overall. We went from sweeping several times a day (toddler) to maybe once a week just to be through.
If you are good with technology and Alex integration, it’s easy for setup and voice commands. If you can’t figure out your cell phone then just stick with a dyson.
