Pros: definitely smaller, lighter, and less bulky than the first edition (see photos). The treat dispenser is much quieter than the first one as well. LOVE the wide-angle lens - catches a lot more in the viewing field than I expected. The picture quality is good, especially the night vision. Setup is SUPER ridiculously easy. The app works great, is very intuitive, and I find myself peeking in on the beasts more often than I did with the other petcube. Also this came with a sample bag of treats which my dogs loved. Sound quality is good coming into the app, and is definitely good coming out as it sufficiently freaked one of my dogs out enough to obey commands when I spoke them through the app. I LOVE that Alexa is built-in. That feature essentially set itself up, and has been such an unexpectedly nice perk. We use it to play calming music for the dogs...and okay also us.
Cons: even though it’s smaller, it’s still a little bulky. I liked that it matched our other one, but we almost considered the petcube play just due to size. Still, I like the treat dispensing feature a lot. The notifications that “movement has occurred” can be a little annoying, but also I haven’t actually tried to turn that feature off yet as it hasn’t been THAT annoying.
As I learned just today (see photos), the treat dispenser noise is NOT scary, and as I ALSO learned today, my beagle can jump very high. This petcube is fairly light as well, and apparently the lid for the treat dispenser comes off with some level of beagle determination. I strongly recommend placing this on a shelf your animals for sure can’t jump upon, or mount (it did come with mounting accessories) sufficiently high. Apparently, approximately 30 seconds after I left the house, my beagle figured out how to jump on the shelf and eat every single treat out of the dispenser. This also helped solve the problem of how all the potatoes on the counter disappeared, and who ate the loaf of home-baked bread. The petcube is fine, and suffered no lasting damage. We will be moving the petcube to a safer location.
Morals of the story:
- very effective, not-scary-to-pets pet camera
- simple, easy to use interface
- needs to be mounted or placed high/in safe location
- beagles are jerks

The wi-fi setup was a breeze — it was so easy and quick I didn’t actually need to use the setup guide at all. I like the wide-angle view to see the whole room and the video quality is amazing — full HD, sharp and clear. The night mode is great too when I’m out or running late. I’ve come to really appreciate the two-way audio to be able to tell my pup to get off the couch or simply call him to fling a treat. I usually send him treats as a reward for behaving well and he learned fast! You can change the treat flinging distance to make it more fun and it works with major treat brands, so you won’t feel limited in choice or worry if you need to change your pup’s diet. Other times, I just set up the auto flinging mode so he gets some yummies during the day and I only check in on him when I get a pet activity alert. I signed up for the Petcube Care service because of the auto-recording feature — it’s very helpful when I’m driving or busy at work and can’t check in on him right away. I can then go back in video history and see what he was up to. Once I was able to catch him eating a chewing gum of the block I accidentally left on the table. I took him to the vet immediately — luckily, he was all good, rascal.
Overall, I would recommend it for any pet parent! While it may not seem like a necessity for some, it’s very helpful to have peace of mind while away and I believe could be a lifesaver, too.
A built-in Alexa is a nice bonus! It’s optional but can come very handy — you can ask her to treat your pet instead of you or look for some great dog treat recipies.
Seller Feedback
The product was delivered quickly and on time, as promised, and I had no issues along the way. It looked exactly as in the images and the packaging was brand new and beautiful. I was setting up the device late at night and had a few questions regarding the treat compatibility that I decided to address the Support Team about and was pleased to receive the super quick and clear response even though it was late.

This is also handy when I’m at home but in a different room and I hear shuffling out in the living room. I once had a foster that loved to rearrange furniture at night and I now have the funniest night vision recording of the dog scooting her bed around to three different locations in a 10 minute span. If I opened the door, she would be laying down or stop moving, so without the Petcube I never would have known how she did it.
The device is super easy to set up and fill with treats. I’m not sure yet how to clean the treat area but haven’t really needed to, and the device itself is just as to disconnect when we don’t have any fur guests. The only thing I don’t love is that the stream (though I can zoom in) isn’t detailed in night vision. So once the sun goes down it can be hard to discern the dog bed from the dog itself. But for not having a subscription and just using the free service, I have no real complaints. Once I have my own dog I’ll probably get the subscription so I can use the motion detection!
