How To Use
Step 1: Push the switch to moisture/pH/light position
Step 2: Stick the probes into the soil 4-6 inches (2/3 of the probes)
Step 3: Adjust the position of the probes until the pointer on the dial swing slightly
Step 4: After 10 minutes, note moisture/pH/light level in the dial
Step 5: Remove probes from soil and wipe clean after each use
Warm Tips:
1: This soil meter CAN ONLY be used in soil. DO NOT use it to test any liquids directly, such as pure water, lemon juice, vinegar and so on, or the probes may be damaged
2: DO NOT insert the soil meter into very hard soil or touch hard objects, easy to damage the probes
3: This soil meter cannot accurately gauge the intensity of grow lights because most light bulbs lack the full spectral range of sunlight. To maximize the accuracy of sunlight readings, point the light sensor at the top front of the meter toward the sun
4: DO NOT leave the probes inserted in soil longer than necessary to make a measurement

Feb 2020 update: the water meter still works well, but I don’t use the other functions. I don’t mind, as I bought it for the water meter function.
This new item does work... for the most part. It does a great job of measuring moisture; I stuck it in dry soil and watched the needle move as I added water. It has since moved up/down as it was placed in other pots. Great resource if your plants are finicky and you need to be sure they stay around a certain moisture level.
The parts I still could not get to work were for the light and pH meter. I left pots directly beneath grow lights for several hours, added acidic/alkaline mixtures... but the needle never moved past the starting point. They worked in that they reset from where the needle was on for moisture, but never moved past a level 8 alkaline or level 0 for light despite multiple different soil mixtures. I'm not sure how it's supposed to measure light to begin with, but a grow light should take care of any light issues you may have.
One thing to note is that this item measures better if the prongs are at least 4 inches deep into the soil; any shallower of a pot and it won't pick up as well. Bottom line: I would consider purchasing this item again specifically to measure water levels.

I don't know what else to say other then this is item doesn't seem to give accurate readings. I don't trust it enough to use the results to adjust the soil composition. (which is why I bought it).
On the plus side the light meter worked!
I want to show everyone what I received out of the box. I got home and went straight to the yard because my sprinkler system had just watered and the soil was loose. I have a small screwdriver that I initially used to make the holes to insert the probes.
I soon found they were not as fragile as people claim and only had to use it in a couple areas. But, I do recommend using the screwdriver method in case you have rocky or clay lawns. You have to use common sense. If it doesn’t slide smoothly into the ground, why force it in. As for the rest, the pictures I uploaded speak for themselves. Every area was a little bit different and most importantly, I got a great overall picture of what is happening with my lawn and garden areas. I don’t need to use this until I make amendments and if this only last me one year, at 16 bucks I’ll gladly purchase another for next year. I will also be doing professional soil tests this year as I get more serious about the main and garden but this is a new house and new sod so this is a great start. I am accumulating more professional equipment along the way but this soil tester is no slouch and I don’t see it giving me a problem as long as I take care of it just as I would a professional tool. Hope this helps.
