About this item
- Watch real ants dig intricate tunnels: Know what s even cooler than a plain old ant habitat full of sand? One that s made with bright blue, space-age gel that glows! Watch your harvester ants dig intricate tunnels through the same type of gel that ants were sent to the moon in. Then, turn on the lights the whole ant habitat glows! It s not only crazy-cool to look at, but the lights can also encourage the ants to dig deeper into the gel.
- Includes beautiful and extensive 16-page learning book: Ants are fascinating insects with super-duper strength, human-like ways of interacting, and oddball features (like the butt of an Australian green ant tastes sort of like a lime! Ew...). This Learning Guide is full of cool, scientific information about ants. NOTE: Due to regulatory restrictions ants cannot be shipped to Oregon or Hawaii.
- A fun and educational gift for all ages: Its not often that a science project can be fun and engaging, but this set achieves both! Great set for individual play or as a group activity. It fascinates children as soon as they pull it out of the box and is a perfect STEM project. It fosters a love for science and paleontology in a fun and exciting way.
- USB Rechargeable Battery: Our blasters guns come with rechargeable battery that are tested and approved for performance and quality. It was only barely warm to the touch after charging. You only need to put the battery in the charging compartment and connect the USB to charge. No batteries required

The ants were easy to order and most arrived alive (though that's a completely unrelated purchase) so we started with close to 50 ants on August 16. We followed instructions and bored a few small holes and let the ants do the rest. the attached photo is Dec 12 when the last ant died. we did have to remove a good bit of the material the ants dug up as well as some of the dead bodies through the process, but overall a very easy process.
I strongly warn against using the LED lights for very long. my son left them on overnight one day and the gel started to weep around the sides, ants were distressed and the overall colony was not thriving. we cleaned it up, aired them out and they were good as new.

Step right into the captivating world of ants with this enthralling ant farm. It's not just a one-time wonder; it's become a bit of a family tradition and a go-to gift for friends. Watching these tiny architects at work, carving out intricate caves and tunnels, is like having a front-row seat to a miniature natural wonder.
The standout feature? You can light up this little metropolis, turning it into a glowing, bustling ant city. It's like flipping the switch on a tiny, underground world, revealing all the secrets of their industrious lives.
And the fun doesn't stop there. The food gel, which doubles as their terrain, is replaceable. When the ants have worked their way through their first batch, just reload, and the show goes on. Need more ants? No problem. You can replenish the workforce and keep the entertainment rolling.
In a nutshell, this ant farm isn't just a toy; it's an ongoing exploration into the fascinating world of ants. It's a gift that keeps on giving, providing endless hours of natural intrigue, both for my family and as a unique present for others.
It is important to note that this does not come with ants.
I found that poking holes in the gel helped get the ants started on digging and made the progress much faster.
For fun, the ants were fed various foods through the pluggable hole in the lid (crackers, dog food, sugar cubes). A strawberry was put in the farm and caused quite a bit of mold. I’d avoid putting anything hydrated in there.
Drop the ants in, close it up, and that's it. No maintenance, no upkeep, no work. The light is a nice feature, both to encourage the ants to dig and also as a nightlight for a kid. My son leaves his unplugged some nights and the ants don't seem to mind.
Would highly recommend this product. We've enjoyed watching the ants build, we've had very few die (when you buy a plastic tube of ants through the mail, you have low expectations), and it lasted a surprisingly long time given the price. Great gift for a science-interested kid.

Update: so I'm not sure why this happened but all 3 eventually ended up with so much condensation that the tunnels collapsed and they were unable to dig. They seemed to not be active as much anymore. I had to buy new farms. I went with a sand farm this time. I have had the sand farms for less than 24 hours and they have been more active and digging way more than they did with this kind of farm. It's cool and all but for the ants I think the sand is better. I was even able to connect all 3 farms.

I wasn’t expecting the additional cost as it’s advertised that it included a voucher for your ants. It isn’t easy finding ants randomly that are inexpensive to purchase alone!
The product is nice but annoying we have a farm and no ants 😂
