Customers are mixed about the quality of the soil tiller cultivator. Some mention that it's very well built, does the job well, and the chipper feels very sturdy and tight. However, others say that it was clear that a serious mechanical breakdown had occurred inside, the 7 hp is not a strong motor, the chippper will choke after 5-6 feet of branch and then, it jams easily and stalls when trying to chip branches greater than about 1 1/2 inches.

45 customers mention30 positive15 negative

Customers are mixed about the size of the soil tiller cultivator. Some mention that it's easy to assemble and the size makes it easy to move and store. They also say that the portability is a positive key point. However, others say that it is smaller than expected, not good with anything bigger than 1.5 inch, and struggles a little bit with 3 inch if it' s wet.

"...It's compact, easy to assemble and very powerful. In fact it's (for me) almost too compact...." Read more

"...While it is a bit heavy, it is not hard to move around, though I usually leave it in one spot and bring the brush to it...." Read more

39 customers mention12 positive27 negative

Customers are mixed about the chipping of the soil tiller cultivator. Some mention that it chips well, while others say that the blades quickly became chipped. It does an acceptable job for these tasks, but it won't chip 3 inches unless it is very soft wood.

"...It looks like a couple of twigs didn't get chipped and it clogged the chute. STAY AWAY FROM THIS AS FAR AS YOU CAN...." Read more

"...It produces pretty consistent 1"-or-so chips and can handle some green material as well...." Read more

"...material, enough that it's now chipping a little slower and spitting out smaller chips...." Read more

"...It is not a shredder, I tried to run some freshly cut shrubs, and it had difficulty and clogged up...." Read more

31 customers mention0 positive31 negative

Customers are dissatisfied with the jam resistance of the soil tiller cultivator. They mention that the chute clogs up a few times, but clears easily. That said, the exhaust chute catches fire and it's a pain to clean out. Some say that the wheels fell off after 15 minutes of use. Overall, customers are not happy with the product's jam resistance.

"...The ejection chute did clog twice on me when I got into more green wood, once badly enough to cause me to have to shut off the engine rather quickly..." Read more

"...It looks like a couple of twigs didn't get chipped and it clogged the chute. STAY AWAY FROM THIS AS FAR AS YOU CAN...." Read more

"...It did clog twice, but that was probably because I didn't have it at 100% throttle. It definitely does better with dried out branches...." Read more

"I love this machine, it jams a bit, but one you get in rhythm, it’s perfect. I recommend it 100%." Read more

Impressions on First Use
1. This wood chipper is for light use only. It advertises as chipping up to 3 inches, but that is a stretch. Any branch having a diameter greater than one inch will tend to stall the motor.2. Assembly was fairly straight-forward. The bolts rolling around the bottom of the box that some reviewers have identified are the mounting bolts for the wheel brace assembly that were set finger tight in the main body of the machine. I suspect that they loosened off during shipping.3. There is bolt that connects the air filter bracket to the motor. This bolt needs to be removed before attaching the the stationary legs to the motor. This is not clear in the assembly instructions. Also the instructions refer to washers for assembly. This has been superseded by flange bolts and nuts.4. After adding oil and gasoline the motor started easily.5. On first use I chipped branches for about an hour and a half. Towards the end of the job, I started running twigs through the chipper. Evidently this was a bad idea since the exit chute clogged twice. This is easy to resolve. The chute is attached with three 13 mm bolts. Do not remove the bolt closest to the motor completely. It will be a bear to reinstall. Loosen it and pull the chute upward. There is a slot.6. When I finally got the machine going after clearing the debris from the chute, the paint near the label started to burn and smoke (see photo). I turned the machine off immediately. When I looked down the feed chute, I noticed that there was a twig stuck in the blade. I removed the inspection panel and (see photo) noted that some small branches were wedged in the area close to the burn spot. I suspect that this caused the smoking paint.7. It's too cold to work on the machine today. Will provide an update when I have dismantled it further. It seems to me, however, that machines like this should be tested and engineered to avoid operational issues.8. UPDATE: After removing the cover from the chipping chamber, I did find a nest of small branches stuck at the center of the chipping wheel. Photos show the chipping wheel before and after the removal of material. This was overheating as the wheel was turning. After removing the material, I reassembled the cover. Some reviewers found that they had to tweak the position of parts to get everything to fit properly. I did not find this. Like the rest of the machine, the cover plate fit precisely. None of the bolts were binding when I installed them. Lesson: Don't attempt to chip branches that are too large or too small.

4.0 out of 5 stars It does what it is supposed to do
Reviewed in Canada on August 6, 2023
It is a small chipper that seems to work well chipping branches up to 2". I used it effectively to chip branches of shrubs and trees I pruned this year but I would not consider it for chipping any pieces larger than 2".
Considering the high cost of more sophisticated chippers, this one is a relatively inexpensive, "bare bones" version. If you do not expect too much from it, you should be quite happy with its performance.
Beware of the set of "replacement" blades that is being offered with this unit. I hope it is a result of mistake and sloppiness rather than a sleazy trick. The blades used in this chipper have three mounting holes and are longer than the two-hole replacement blades being suggested for purchase. Many people do not check these details and find out several years later that they bought a part that does not fit, but it is already too late to return it.
