This test explained a lot about the temperment of our rescue dog
When adopting our rescue dog, we had suspicions about her genetic make up but wanted to know for sure. I purchased this kit based upon the reviews I found online. The kit arrived quickly and was easy to use following the instructions in the packet. We sent off the test immediately and were eager for the results. The only complaint I have about this kit is the turnaround time. It took longer than I expected, at almost 5 weeks. The results however, were great. We got a full breakdown of her genetic makeup but even better, what you can expect with each breed in terms of temperament and potential health issues. We're rescue dog people and will continue to be. This kit is great for giving some background that you don't always have when you rescue a dog.

I'm a little surprised by some of these reviews. I have several dogs and have tried 2 additional well known DNA test brands. What stands out with Orivet is the detail. While the results did take a while, I understood why when they arrived. Other brands I've used prior either categorized my mutts into 3 simple breeds or utilized the umbrella term "supermutt" in the results. When Orivet's results arrived, my dog's DNA was analyzed down to a single percentage. I am actually annoyed that I spent several hundreds of dollars on lazy testing when I could have tried Orivet first. As mutt parents, were already aware we've got "supermutts." What we really want to know is the actual recipe, line for line, of what our precious pups are made of. Thanks Orivet for going that extra mile. I will be ordering again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Accurate results, hidden fees
Reviewed in the United States on June 16, 2023
I ordered this for a stray we rescued so we would be able to let possible new families know his breed. Plus I got an additional one for my shih tzu so I could see potential health risks for him as he is older and has some allergies.

I really enjoyed the quick and simple process to collect the samples. It wasn't harmful to my dogs at all, just like a cheek swab for us. They included envelopes and everything needed to mail from your home the samples.

I had an issue with activating one of the kits, so I reached out to Orivet customer service. They returned my call the very next day and resolved the issue.

Results took a while to come back which was expected, 3-6 weeks. I got mine back in about 3 weeks. I do not like that they do not inform you that the health risks part is not included in the initial price. It is an add on which I am highly frustrated with as that was the ONLY reason I got my shih tzu a kit. It is an additional $85!! That's total BS. You needed to have stated that somewhere clearly visible. I wouldn't have wasted my money on the kit if I knew it was going to be extra.

Just know that for anyone looking to get one of these tests. Perfect to figure out mixed breeds DNA, can't comment on the other section for health risks.

We sent our sample from Switzerland on March 22nd, the sample was sent and arrived in the US on April 19th. Finally, we received our results on May 26th. Based on his pictures, we thought our dog had something of a Malinois. He yawns a lot, maybe this explains the Malamute and Husky parts.

12,81% caniche gigante (standard poodle),
12,65% Husky siberiano (Siberian husky),
11,73% Perro ratero (Rat terrier),
Perpleja, estoy.
