About this item

  • Putting Stability in Your Hands: A huge part of creating great photos or videos is making sure you are in the right place at the right time – and that often means making handheld images to get to the heart of the action. X-T4’s state-of-the-art, five-axis In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS) provides up to 6.5 stops of image stabilization to make sure that, even in the midst of all the excitement, your images remain steady and sharp. Combine this with the new four-axis Digital Image Stabilizer, and you have lots of room to maneuver.
  • Performance You Can Rely On: For any serious image maker, having a tool that can be relied upon to perform flawlessly whenever it is required is extremely important. For this reason, X-T4 features a newly developed mechanical shutter that is the fastest and most robust in the history of the X Series. Not only can it make images at 15 frames per second, but it is also rated for 300,000 actuations2. When you combine this with it’s larger capacity battery that is capable of up to 600 frames per charge2, X-T4 has the power and the durability to give you the peace of mind that you’ll never miss the perfect opportunity.
  • Find the Best Angle for Your Story: When chasing the perfect image, versatility is key, so the last thing you want is to be hampered by awkward angles. The 1.62 million pixel vari-angle touchscreen LCD featured on X-T4 can be adjusted to make it visible from a wide range of positions. This not only gives you a high-quality monitor to frame with, but also provides quick and simple controls when you need them most. On the flip side, there are times when you need to minimize the light and distractions that a screen can create. That’s why X-T4’s LCD has been designed to easily fold away so it is completely hidden from view, leaving the updated 3.69 million pixel/100fps electronic viewfinder to help you focus on the moment at hand.
  • When Your Story Needs Movement: The modern image maker is blurring the lines between photography and videography, and X-T4 has been designed to celebrate this new generation of hybrid creativity. With the simple flick of a switch, movie mode is activated, meaning X-T4 is capable of recording both professional-level DCI 4K/60p and Full HD/240p super slow-motion video. It is also possible to record F-Log footage in 10-bit color, straight to the card. What’s more, the innovative AF-C subject tracking works in low-light conditions down to -6EV and the camera’s use of a new, high capacity battery lets you push your creative limits.
  • Powerful Image Manipulation Made Easy: For over 85 years, Fujifilm has produced photographic films that have been used by some of the world’s best-known moviemakers to create some of the world’s most successful movies. This legendary reputation in color science is celebrated with their hugely popular selection of Film Simulations, which digitize some of the industry’s most iconic films and puts them right at your fingertips. X-T4 introduces ETERNA Bleach Bypass, the newest addition to this much-loved collection of film simulation modes available in the X Series product line, which creates a beautiful de-saturated, high-contrast look that any image-maker will find irresistible.

Awesome Color, great for Stills, Not so Much for Video, Is this my Dream Camera?

Awesome Color, great for Stills, Not so Much for Video, Is this my Dream Camera?
After several years of using this camera I finally decided to write a review. The Low Light Capability was my primary concern when choosing this camera and it delivers! Bottom line is that it falls just short of being my dream camera...I primarily shoot in available light or as one famous photographer put it, "available darkness". I got frustrated with and gave up on film because nothing could deliver decent quality at ISO 3200 which is my most frequent requirement. It took a long time for digital quality to exceed film quality but this camera delivers. I have even gotten usable results at ISO 12800.Fuji is known for it's colors and this camera lives up to that reputation. It did take me quite a bit of trial and error tweaking of settings -- there are many to choose from -- but I love the results. Even in extreme lighting conditions is does a great job of rendering colors and skin tones. It's also compact and light weight compared to a full-frame camera. The IBIS stabilization is good too.I have owned several Cannon cameras and each one has promised better auto-focus than ever before and each one has done what I felt was a really poor job of auto-focus. So much so that after my last Cannon camera I decided that I would not ever be buying any more cameras from them because I couldn't trust any claims being made by Cannon.Fuji on the other hand, for the most part does an excellent job of auto-focus. I did find that eye-tracking was unusable when there were multiple subjects in the frame because focus would flip randomly between the different people, this was especially unusable when doing video. But area focus works very well in all lighting conditions. In all fairness deciding which person to focus on is a hard problem to solve. My complaint is that once it has picked someone it ought to stay with that person not randomly choose to focus on someone else, especially while doing video. However some of this could also be my lack of knowledge, this camera has so many different settings and abilities perhaps there is a way to modify this behavior that I have not figured out yet. But I found it is easier just to not use eye-tracking, the other focus methods give me what I need.I primarily bought this camera for still photography and for that purpose it delivers in spades. The low light capability, stabilization and the color rendition in particular make this my dream camera. But then I ended up doing a lot of video that I had not anticipated and that is where this camera falls down. But it is not the camera body that is the problem it is the lenses that are not suitable for video.Maybe if I sprung for a "cinema" lens $$$ things would be different. I do most of my shooting with Fujinon XC50-230mm lens because this zoom range covers about 90% of what I need (event photography) and the image quality is pretty darn good especially for the price. The problem is that Fuji conceals the fact that most of it's lenses are "Vari-Focal". If you dig around on the Fuji website you will find where they explain that lens design is a series of compromises (true) and that by creating a "Vari-Focal" lens they feel that they can deliver better image quality. The problem is that this sucks for doing video and Fuji won't tell you which lenses are NOT "Vari-Focal" but they seem to imply that most of their lenses are. What is "Vari-Focal" and why does it suck? Prior to Fuji I had not ever encountered it so it came as quite a surprise to me. When you focus a zoom lens on a subject and then you zoom the lens, with a Fixed Focus lens as you zoom the focus does not change and the subject stays in focus. This is very useful when doing manual focus of a still image because you can zoom all the way in set your focus and then pull back and re-frame and your focus will stay tack sharp. But with a "Vari-Focal" lens as you zoom the focus shifts, it does not stay constant, you must refocus at every change in zoom position. It turns out that a Fixed Focus lens is a lot harder to create which adds both to the cost and the weight, so Fuji mostly does not do that and won't tell you this either. For still photography and with auto-focus enabled you mostly won't even notice the difference. And in some situations with video and auto-focus enabled the focus will be okay as you zoom. But there are multiple scenarios when shooting video that "Vari-Focal" is simply not okay. Perhaps there are work-arounds that I have not learned yet... but I find it to be a great hindrance... one that has me wishing for something different.Another issue with the XC50-230mm lens is that it takes great effort to get it to zoom smoothly and even with that effort it is still a bit jumpy. For still photos this is a non-issue, but for video it is a huge pain. Once again I have not seen any lens reviews that tell you how smoothly a lens will zoom, you don't learn this until after you buy it.And finally it is somewhat annoying that the XT4 limits you to 29 minutes of video recording. After that it silently stops recording and if you are not paying attention to this rather critical fact you end up in a world of hurt. There are many EXCUSES for why this camera and many other cameras do this but in reality there is ZERO Technical reason for not allowing continuous recording beyond the 29 minute limit. Many people including myself solve this problem by using an external recorder. But note that when recording externally the video's auto-focus behavior changes. So in summary: I do use this camera quite a bit for video but find that it is just barely adequate for the job. Perhaps if I owned a much more expensive/different lens my opinion would be different since this is mostly a limitation of the lens and not of the body. However for still photography it is absolutely wonderful!Disclaimer: I paid full price for this camera and lenses and nobody tried to influence my opinion. I put a lot of effort into these reviews, if you found this review helpful please do click the like button.

5.0 out of 5 stars The almost perfect hybrid camera
Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2020
Probably the closest thing to the perfect hybrid camera. The X-T4 is the best camera for those who like me take photography and videography seriously. It is an amazing little package, the video is amazing, the photos are amazing as well, the system includes all the lenses you need.

The Stills/Movie dial is genius, it cleans up the menus and makes everything much easier to setup quickly. The ergonomics are improved from the X-T3, the battery life is doubled, the new shutter is quieter and rated for 300,000 actuations. The IBIS is fantastic as well.

To be honest, the autofocus is great and works very well, but it's not near Sony or Canon, but Fuji is always working on it and it will keep improving it. I'd give it a solid distant third place in performance behind Canon as of right now.

If you're going to use this camera mainly for video, only a few lenses work as expected and pull focus smoothly, accurately and with minimum focus breathing according to Fuji, the 18-55 F2.8-4, (which is my main video lens) the 50-140 F2.8 and 10-24 F4.0. So keep that in mind when choosing lenses.

If you're using this camera for stills, this camera is the best APS-C camera on the market and it gives some more expensive full-frame cameras a run for their money. The way the lenses render color, sharpness and contrast is fantastic. Any XF lens, even the "kit" lens is a fantastic piece of kit, so select your lenses freely because all of them are fantastic.
