I use this to get rainwater off a flat roof. It is not automatic, but it works great! It takes a beating and keeps going. I have left it on too long a few times when there was no more water for it to pump. It shut off, but when I unplugged it and plugged it back in, it worked. I would not recommend doing this on purpose though.

I also purchased the automatic one and it does not work for my purposes. It needs quite a bit of water depth in order to turn on, and you cannot manually turn it on (that I'm aware of).

To clear the roof of the water quicker, I just purchased a second one of these. That's how satisfied I am with this pump.. I highly recommend it for purposes like mine.

I used this pump in a garbage can to collect heavy snow melt off the roof and move it away from the foundation. It was so quiet I couldn't even hear it running. Because the pump had a high rating I ordered it without paying attention to the power cord length -- only ten feet, so I had to use an extension cord. I also liked that I could use a garden hose and the pump has both a side and top discharge option. Overall, I'm pleased and it was delivered faster than I had anticipated. A good little pump for the money.

A few times I have needed this product. It has been a lifesaver. It pumps for hours on end without getting tired and it clears water fast and reliably. I have two of them just in case I have a larger flood. It works outside to Clearwater away from driveways. It works to clear out water from my basement the two times I needed it. I used it into other spots as well and it’s simply incredible. Highly recommend this pump.

In heavy rain, my lawn-drains sometimes back up into the patio. This sucks the water all the way down to ground level. Having an outlet on the side is also great. The downside is that I have to watch the water level to turn it on before it floods, and then watch it until it's done (which only takes a couple minutes). It could also use a handle, since it's a little awkward to pick up, but not enough to cost it a star. It' also very quiet, maybe too quiet. A sensor would be nice so I don't have to babysit it, but the pumps that had that feature only kicks in at two inches. By that time it's a problem.

This is a great little pump at a good price that does exactly what is described. I bought it to deal with an emergency flooding situation in my basement, and it does drain very effectively down to about a centimetre, but I ended up using it frequently to drain water from on top of my swimming pool cover. Note that in this scenario once it is started, you can unplug and allow to siphon instead. Nice long three prong cord, very solid case, with supports to wrap the cord around for easy storage. This is a portable temporary use drainage pump and so you don't need a switch. Best feature is being able to use an ordinary garden hose and it pumps quickly and quietly over at least a 3 metre height. Very pleased to be able to buy this Wayne product through Amazon. Only suggestion I would make is a hook or loop on top to be able to pick up as you should not lift with the cord.

April 2020 update - just used it effectively to pick up water directly from puddles on the lawn after heavy rain and snow melt - works like a charm!

Used this to suck the water out of my Portable 11000 litre pool. Was pumping water uphill and this did the trick. Its obviously not going to pump as fast uphill be this product exceeded my expectations. The bottom can be a little sharp so i dropped it in the pool on top of a plastic mat. Worked great. Set it and forget it type of thing. Its quite. Works like all the youtube videos say.

If you need a sump pump. This is great on a budget. Easy to clean as well and 2 ports for a hose

This little pump is great. I have no major complaints, but here's some observations:

- It emptied a 3000 gallon swim spa in about 4.5 hours. That's not exactly meeting the top spec advertised, but it's not bad, and it can be a combination of hose size or whatever. I used regular garden hose.

- I had to return the first one that arrived as the top release valve had been completely broken off and 2 of the feet were broken as well. The outer yellow shell is pretty hard brittle plastic, so I'd recommend handling with care.

- I'm not sure if 1/16th of an inch is achievable easily - maybe in ideal conditions where the ground is 100% level and flat. I tried pushing water towards the pump, but seems it needs to create a seal first before it's effective, which takes a few seconds, so unless the pushed water stays around the pump for a while, and water doesn't like to be pushed around, it's not going to get pumped out.

Overall, pretty happy with the purchase.
