Lodge I believe is a great brand, we have several Lodge Cast iron pans and they all have performed well over the years.
However, we decided to order a Lodge 6 Quart Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven and a 3.6 Quart Enameled Cast Iron Oval (its round and not oval) Casserole pot, they were delivered together in their individual boxes inside a single box. Both individual boxes had Made in China all over them. When opened the 6 Quart was acceptable and we put it to good use right away and so far is working like we had hoped. The 3.6 Quart was a different story, for that we saw a small imperfection in the inside Porcelain Enamel coating in the bottom of the pan, the issue is this most likely compromised the long term stability of the coating as it would allow moisture to reach the Cast Iron and could potentially allow it to rust and then start chipping the coating. We decided to return that item and get a replacement, that replacement was received and that too had a very similar imperfection. Given that it was returned too but this time we requested a refund which is what we are waiting on at the time of this review.
My wife had ordered the 1st go round so since there was an issue with Amazon online now not recognizing her credit card (which was OK from what we could see) we decided to order it under my account. This time when the package was received the unusual thing is that now it was received in a similar sized box that had all the Lodge Logo and writing on the outside of the brown shipping box and no Made in China verbiage. When the shipping box was opened we found the pot packed inside an original Lodge box which is different then the other orders as there was no other box, just cardboard packing. After opening and inspection the Porcelain Enamel coating looked really good and is acceptable. The other odd thing is the pot paperwork inserted with the pot was different then the other ones. The other key and I think defining quality difference is this pot was made in Vietnam vs. China.
Prior to ordering the pot under my account, i had reached out to Lodge directly, they quickly dismissed me as they stated I would have to manage all issues with Amazon. This sort of surprised me as there was no mention of warranty or trying to personally correct any issue. I am sure there are things I do not understand about their product manufacturing or distribution processes but what I do know is the 2 time I received the item made in China they were defective in the same way. I say buyer beware, makes you question the China made products long term stability of the coating.

Lid knob is oven safe to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. |
Two layers of very hard, glossy porcelain enamel are chip resistant and easy to clean. Use wooden, silicon or nylon utensils. Metal can scratch the porcelain. The black rim on the pot is matte porcelain, not exposed cast iron. Although dishwasher safe, hand washing with warm soapy water is recommended to preserve the cookware's original appearance. |

Before making this purchase, I was a little weary because I figured I could just get a cheaper brand and it would work just as well. I learned the hard way that sometimes, price is absolutely equivalent to to quality. I really should have purchased this much sooner because it really would have made my life so much easier. This is the most versatile kitchen object. I can fry eggs, make paella, cook pasta, make sauce, bake bread, the list goes on and on. The heat dispersement is wonderful, and it is easy to clean. You will NOT regret making this purchase. It is a life changer. Just keep in mind that it is a little heavy, but it is seriously one of the best kitchen purchases you will ever make. They have a great track record and will last for years to come.
