Well built, needs a little work for small bait
4 Stars
Well built, needs a little work for small bait
Bait entrance hole is fairly large, but can easily be tied off with fishing line to make it harder to escape for smaller fish. I turned the one large opening into 4 smaller openings (see picture). Also the green string used doesnt pull and stay tight. Glue the knots to keep them from loosening up over time (see picture). Otherwise this is a nice trap for the price. I consistently get more minnows in my collapsible net traps than I do in the old style wire traps. The net used on these is strong and they are larger than my older collapsible traps.

I ordered the 2-pack because why not? Loaded them with dog food kibble and tossed them in a pond using the included retaining cordage. Left them for 30 minutes, and successfully caught DOZENS of small fish- from minnow fry to 6” bluegills and even a 5” turtle. Easy to unload and they disappear in a dark pond to stay hidden. Great buy and great design.

I bought 2 of these to thin out the crawdad population in a muddy pond. I continually caught 25-50 per trap, per day for about a month, so I bought 2 more. Still catching about 100/day in the 4 traps but it's starting to taper off and the water is noticeably clearer. Traps have been in the water 24 hours a day for over a month and show no sign of deterioration. They're easy to bait with dry cat food using the zippered pouch (fill it all the way up if traps will sit for 24 hours and you'll catch more dads). I tied a floating poly 3/8 rope to the included lanyard, anchored down the other end with a tent stack and just pitch them out in the pond. I have used the smaller metal funnel traps previously and they work OK, but these are simpler and hold a lot more, and bigger crawdads.

These are 20.5" long (annoyingly just over my areas 20" limit) and have two 4" internal opening. The internal opening is easy enough to change with rope, and you can limit the expanded length by changing internal ropes also, so it is workable for me.

Each trap weighs 13.8oz and packs to 12x2" The bait holder area is very flimsy and only a flat 3x3" area. The closure hooks on mine were strong and worked great. This is well built with the exception of the bait holder area and the flimsy string to attach it to the bank.

I literally was unsure at this price point if these would work, but they worked incredibly AND came with 2 traps, not one metal trap that cost more! We caught crabs, kilis & puffer fish without issue, and none got out until I let them go. I was afraid of a crab getting caught in the mesh, but nope… it was very easy to get everything out of them. What an outstanding deal. I’ll buy more in the future 👍!! I’ve crabbed my whole life & never had these types of traps b4. The metal one we brought along yielded nothing at all. The quality for cost factor + effectiveness cannot be beat!

Not a bad design for what your paying for. 2 for the price of one basically is a awesome deal, considering these are made about the same as the others you see on the market. Even has an extra layer of nylon woven in to help from tearing or fishing slipping through. Two design flaws I noticed though are.... 1.) The hooks holding it together when collapsing keep popping off, allowing the unit to unfold. Needs to be larger, curved more, or a tighter fit around the bars.... 2.) There needs to be 2 more strings added between the openings, to make 4 total, so that when the unit is unfolded, the openings that the fish can swim through are more open. The holes the fish, crayfish, or shad swim into can collapse/ fold with only having 2 strings to stretch the mouth holes at the end of each funnel. If your bait runs into a collapsed opening/ dead end, it will just go the other direction. Defeats the purpose. Otherwise the design and unit is decently made for what your paying for. 3 stars for how it was made, minus 2 for design flaws, and for using thin support rope that can snap easily if used around rocks. Recommend replacing the support rope with paracord or a more abrasion resistant rope of sorts.

Worked to Catch Goldfish from Pond - but you have to be careful not to leave them in at night, as the frogs swim around and then they get caught instead and you wind up with drowned frogs in the morning which is sad. :( But if you only "fish" during the day, that seems to work good. (I caught 20+ fish this way!) :)

I was really excited when I got these. Great design and size. Fantastic price. The openings are perfect size for crayfish, and the design which closes the openings when there is no pressure is great.
There are two minor issues: 1. They are super-light, so take a long time to sink, and will drift quite a bit if there's a current. 2. The little bags for bait are great if you're using pellets, but don't work well with pieces of fish. The fins catch on the mesh and fish heads often don't fit in the tiny bags.
There is one major issue: After using these once (two days in the cold fresh water of a clean lake) they're rusty. And they're not just a little rusty, but so rusty that the rust rubs off on other things the cages touch. These cages won't last. I'm including a photo comparing these cages, with their rust, to the 20 year old cages I also have. I'm guessing these cages were made with something other than stainless steel.
I bought 10 of these cages. I'm guessing they'll last 1 or 2 seasons before the rusting thin metal starts breaking from fragility. When that happens, I'll make sure to check for 'stainless steel' as I buy a next batch of cages.

These are good, I've caught over 200 crayfish in 1 trap at once, but the zippers are cheap and flimsy so handle with care and the sewing on the bait pouches is bad , the crayfish unraveled the seam after the second use , really bringing down the amount caught.
