Highly recommended! Business grade WiFi for low price.
To start, I am a network engineer with many years of experience in the high-tech industry. I’ve managed many enterprise wireless solutions (meraki, xirrus, ruckus, ubiquiti, Cisco).I started buying 2 of these EAP245’s and added a 3rd because I was so happy with the value of this unit. 3 of these units handles 40 clients (about 30 home automation devices) and 10 newer laptops/iPhones. I have gigabit internet and this install is in a 2700 sq. Ft home.Previously, I was running 2x TM-AC1900 (had terrible dark spots in the house, frequently had to disconnect and reconnect to connect to different AP’s)Pros:- Form factor — no big antennas poking off, Easily mounts to wall or ceiling.- Speed and Signal — excellent speed and signal. See screenshot.- Omada — once it’s setup, the controller software is really quite excellent. I would not run these in an enterprise but for a small business or an insanely powerful home solution, this is a great solution. Adding new AP’s is incredibly simple. Configuration is simple and the analytics/reporting is actually fairly impressive.- Advanced features — a large reason I chose this unit is the 802.1r functionality. This allows seamless roaming. No disconnection when walking through the house, great for WiFi calls. The Omada controller gives you great visibility into channel utilization.Cons:- Limited advances features — Frankly, for what I need to do in the house, the current feature set works perfectly. The only feature I wish the controller had is an “auto signal adjustment” feature.- Potentially misleading marketing — this is probably my own dumb fault but I did not realize that having the controller on the LAN was required to have centralized management. I mistakenly assumed the “cloud controller” was a phone-home / cloud-based solution provided by TP-Link. You must run the controller (either the OC200 device or the Omada controller). The “cloud controller” is simply the ability to access your controller remotely when you are outside of the network.Notes:- I battled setting up Omada for a few hours (again, I am a very technically inclined person). I’m running the Omada software in Docker on a Centos7 server. I can’t fault TP-Link for this as “firewalld” was preventing the Java app from correctly listening on my servers network interface.Takeaway:Overall, the EAP-245 is an amazing little access point. The low price point of the AP and quality of the business grade controller makes this a very robust home WiFi solution.

    - Potentially misleading marketing — this is probably my own dumb fault but I did not realize that having the controller on the LAN was required to have centralized management. I mistakenly assumed the “cloud controller” was a phone-home / cloud-based solution provided by TP-Link. You must run the controller (either the OC200 device or the Omada controller). The “cloud controller” is simply the ability to access your controller remotely when you are outside of the network.

    Notes:
    - I battled setting up Omada for a few hours (again, I am a very technically inclined person). I’m running the Omada software in Docker on a Centos7 server. I can’t fault TP-Link for this as “firewalld” was preventing the Java app from correctly listening on my servers network interface.

    Takeaway:
Overall, the EAP-245 is an amazing little access point. The low price point of the AP and quality of the business grade controller makes this a very robust home WiFi solution.

To start, I am a network engineer with many years of experience in the high-tech industry. I’ve managed many enterprise wireless solutions (meraki, xirrus, ruckus, ubiquiti, Cisco).

I started buying 2 of these EAP245’s and added a 3rd because I was so happy with the value of this unit. 3 of these units handles 40 clients (about 30 home automation devices) and 10 newer laptops/iPhones. I have gigabit internet and this install is in a 2700 sq. Ft home.

Previously, I was running 2x TM-AC1900 (had terrible dark spots in the house, frequently had to disconnect and reconnect to connect to different AP’s)

    Pros:
    - Form factor — no big antennas poking off, Easily mounts to wall or ceiling.
    - Speed and Signal — excellent speed and signal. See screenshot.
    - Omada — once it’s setup, the controller software is really quite excellent. I would not run these in an enterprise but for a small business or an insanely powerful home solution, this is a great solution. Adding new AP’s is incredibly simple. Configuration is simple and the analytics/reporting is actually fairly impressive.
    - Advanced features — a large reason I chose this unit is the 802.1r functionality. This allows seamless roaming. No disconnection when walking through the house, great for WiFi calls. The Omada controller gives you great visibility into channel utilization.

    Cons:
    - Limited advances features — Frankly, for what I need to do in the house, the current feature set works perfectly. The only feature I wish the controller had is an “auto signal adjustment” feature.

Easy to setup through the web interface, no need for a copy controller or separate software. Comes with a PoE power supply, but on patch cable. Good coverage, has 2.4 and 5 GHz as well as beamforming. Handles VLANs with multi SSID perfectly. App works well for tweaking settings and live monitoring. Great price point!

Been using these for years in my home for rock solid wifi...had to replace one that after nearly 5 years gave up the ghost. Stylish and unintrusive and easy to set up even without a host controller. Highly recommend for anyone tired of crap wifi...and at a reasonable price.

I bought the AC1750 two pack to extend the wireless signal through out my house. My current tri-band router which is in the basement just wasn't giving good signal on the second floor and with two of us working from home it was becoming an issue. I installed one of these in the basement below the living room and the other in the hall on the second floor. I used the Omada software (free to download) on an existing media server. Setup was painless one time through to put in all of the SSID's, passwords and make a group. Then just add the AP's to the group and you are done. Very easy. They have been in use for two weeks now. Streaming video, WiFi calling, video conferencing, and your standard internet fare all work flawlessly. No bandwidth issues what so ever with two people using five device and streaming audio. Signal strength is very good. I get a connection in my garage which is over 50' away from the house. Granted the speed is slower but that's to be expected at that range with brick walls between. Speed within the house itself is stellar with device speeds coming higher than my better rated tri-band router. I have installed and supported AP's from Zyxel, Netgear, Ubiquiti, and Cisco. These TP-link Omada AP's are easily some of the best I have worked with to date. Highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars great value / great AP

I've bought about 8-10 of these AP in the last year for a few different projects, they are great - work well. You can configure them standalone for simple setup, or 'add them to a centrally managed wifi controller system' for a bigger setup / central management etc. The hardware is good build quality, robust, never had any issues. The admin interface for config is good. they work well. recommended.

I added this unit to my house Wi-Fi, linked to an Omada hardware controller.
Very pleased with the performance and the ease of install and config using the controller.
I have 3 of the EAP225 but added this unit upstairs since the kids moved back home and both working from home upstairs

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Access Point Everyone Should Look at Buying

When I bought this router, I was using an old Wireless N router for my network and connection to the Internet. Eventually, the speed of my wireless network seemed slow, so I decided to upgrade. I could have chosen to buy a new wireless router, with all the settings on my old router, I didn't want to have to set up a new router with the same settings, so I decided to buy this wireless access point.

After connecting this access point to my older router, and followed the instructions to set it up, I was immediately amazed at how fast my wireless connection had become. Of course, the biggest reason was I upgraded from a wireless N connection to a wireless AC connection with this access point.

Both the router and this access point are located in the same room on the second floor of my house. This access point has a much longer range, which means I was getting my faster connection speed from even the basement of my house, than with the old router.

The configuration of the access point allows me to separate both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz wireless networks into separate networks, but I use the same SSID and password for both, so my devices can connect to either wireless band. There is also guest network support - through VLANs - so one access point can be used for both my main and guest network while keeping the networks (and devices) separate.

The access point is powered by POE (power over ethernet), which means the power for the device travels over the ethernet cable. This requires a compatible POE ethernet port from a router or switch connected to the AP. There is a POE adapter that allows you to connect the AP to a power outlet, and then have the adapter transfer the power over the ethernet cable to the AP, if you don't have a POE port switch/router.

There is a second port on the AP that can be used to connect another device through ethernet (non-POE).

There are also multiple ways to configure the AP. I initially connected to the AP directly to configure it. I have since installed the Omada Controller software on a desktop that runs 24/7 and now manage the AP from that software.

Since I have bought this AP, I have upgraded my router to a new pfSense firewall/router. When doing so, I didn't need to make any changes to the AP - it worked just as it did when connected to the old router.

If you are looking for a great, easy-to-use, and fast access point to extend or replace your current wireless network, I highly recommend this access point. You get a great AP for a very affordable price.
