Installed In Attic - Works Great!
After trying a cheap flat antenna, which surprisingly worked pretty well to pick up most of the local stations in my area when placed in a window facing most of the broadcast towers, I was sold on setting up an antenna in a permanent location. I bought a used Clearstream Max2 from eBay and.. unfortunately it didn't seem to pick up NBC and several other stations and actually seemed to not perform as well as the cheap flat antenna. So I decided to try this GE antenna since I had it in my wishlist for a number of months.Assembly was relatively straight-forward. After testing this near the window I could get as many channels as the flat antenna and performance seemed on-par. It wasn't noticeably "better" during that test of holding the antenna by the window, but it wasn't any worse. Finally, I ran cable and mounted it on a board in the attic. I wanted to be able to reposition it fairly easily if needed and to just test it out without holding onto it. Well, right now this is going to be the permanent location. No need to mount it on a 2x4 or anything. I'm getting more stations (mostly duplicates) than I was with any antenna and they're coming in nice and clear most of the time, though I think at times weather can affect certain stations a bit.I've only had this installed about a week, but I'm very pleased at the performance and I love not having to mount an antenna on the roof or outside, worry about weather affecting the antenna, etc. It's working really well and for the price it's an absolute steal for what it's doing. Paired with an HDHomerun Flex I have finally "cut the cord" and get better quality on the major local stations (NBC, ABS, CBS, FOX). Can't ask for much more!

I live in a suburb quite far from the city and many of the broadcast station antennas. I purchased the GE 29884 antenna a couple of weeks ago from Amazon. Along with the antenna, I purchased a PCT 4 Port Cable TV/HDTV/Internet amplifier (model PCT-MA2-4P) just in case I need it. I have been trying to "cut the cable" and stop paying expensive cable TV fees for even local basic television stations. In addition to the fees, my cable company switched to a system requiring cable TV boxes that you rent from them for $6/month per box. I have tried other powered indoor antennas and have had miserable experiences with them. Few channels could be scanned and the picture quality was dismal, or heavily pixelated, especially in the daytime hours. The few stations that I could pick up were often unwatchable. So back to cable I went.

I decided to try the GE 29884 antenna based on the reviews I read on Amazon. The antenna comes in a fairly small box labelled as Pro Outdoor/Attic Mount Antenna. The installation booklet is small with tiny "mice" type. So you might need to scan in the booklet in order to be able to zoom in on the text and illustrations. All the parts are nicely packaged and are easily identified in the instruction manual. A count of each part type is also given, Prior to installation it helps to layout all the parts including the nuts and screws, the reflector rods, dipole antenna parts, main mast, mounting parts, etc. The installation can be a bit tricky, if you follow the manual. However is you do a search on "GE 29884 antenna assembly", YouTube videos can be found that simplify the assembly process a great deal. It took me about a half an hour to assemble the antenna. One nice thing is that rubber end caps were provided to cap off the dipole rods. The antenna definitely seems to be a quality product.

I mounted the antenna in the attic, as high as possible using the provided J-mount mounting hardware and supplied M5 bolts and nuts. I disconnected the coaxial cable from the cable TV provider, and connected it to the antenna's connector located on the main mast. Using a bedroom TV, I then selected "antenna" as the input, and performed a channel scan. A total of 106 channels scanned. Most were crystal clear. Perhaps 3 or 4 were pixelated. Sure many of the channels are trash or of no interest to me (shopping channels, religious, languages I don't speak, etc) but many great channels came in beautifully including all the local channels and sub-channels, movie channels, retro, public, etc. A few audio-only channels were picked up. And I didn't have the amplifier connected.

I did wire up the amplifier simply because a signal splitter attenuates the signal from the antenna as you feed the signal to multiple TVs. The 4-port amplifier boosts the signal going to each TV.

So far, I've had the antenna for a week and I have not been disappointed. All I can say is "bye bye cable TV company". It is time to cut the cable. The antenna and amplifier will pay for itself in a month or two.

Update: 6 weeks later: This antenna works like a charm. I have cut the cord, get no more monthly cable bills, and could not be happier.

I am very pleased with this antenna. It was a bit of a challenge to assemble it, but YouTube came to my rescue (again) and I got it put together and ready to mount in no time. I only live about 15 miles from most of the broadcast antennas so I was expecting some very high quality pictures with this antenna - and that is what I got. I selected to mount it to my garden shed to keep it just below the top of the fence line view so my neighbors would not see it (not that they would care, but I did). Super easy to mount to the short antenna mast provided and I ran the exterior grade cable (not provided with the antenna) into the house through the wall and hooked it up to my Tablo recording device. OUTSTANDING picture on 45 channels (most of which I'd never heard of). I immediately fired DIRECT TV and I am now saving $120 A MONTH! Yes!

The GE Outdoor HD Digital TV Antenna Long Range OTA HDTV Antenna Yagi Style Design does the job for me, I was a skeptic and before I ran coax wires I wanted to make sure this device worked. I tossed it up in the attic, crudely aimed it west, ran some loose coax to a spare tv in my garage and ran a channel scan. It picked up 42 channels so I was sold. Next I ordered a SiliconDust HDHomeRun Flex Duo 2 to go with my Plex server on unRAID allowing me to watch and DVR programs using Plex (with a plexpass) and everything worked right out of the gate, no amplifier needed (your results may vary). Next, I ran coax to tie into old CATV coax for the easist install job. I recently ditched the evil empire Xfinity for a local fiber internet company but I've wanted local channels and I'm not paying for YTTV or cable anymore. It's ALL a ripoff. I can beam OTA channels to any device I have, iPhone, iPad, Android, PC, MAC, whatever, anytime, anywhere there's 5G signal. As you can see from the crappy pictures I installed the J Tube upside down, that's just how it had to be, otherwise the antenna would be in a a high traffic area in the attic and I couldn't have that. Sometimes you have to improvise, adapt, overcome. I still have small adjustments up or down and over the coming months I'm sure I'll have to fine tune my setup. That's how it is now a days. Initially I aimed the antenna to the west and I picked up some channels but not the numbers I had before. I nudged it slightly northwest and I have almost every channel that's offered in my area aiming northwesterly. One channel I still cant pick up in the scan is PBS but I'm sure I'll figure it out. Product seems durable for attic install, outside in harsh windy weather with birds and squirrels not so much.

The GE Outdoor HD Digital TV Antenna Long Range OTA HDTV Antenna Yagi Style Design does the job for me, I was a skeptic and before I ran coax wires I wanted to make sure this device worked. Amazing antenna. It has been almost two years and the antenna is still holding strong. There has been multiple thunderstorms and very strong winds, and it has been frozen outside a couple of times, and the antenna keeps working. I got four TV's connected to it with a splitter, and there was no need to get signal amplifiers and we are getting even the sub-channels available in the area.
For its decent price and great durability I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars MUY BUENA ANTENA EXTERIOR.... 36 CANALES DE TV ABIERTA EN MI CIUDAD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really great attic antenna, works better then expected!

I had originally purchased one to test out this antenna in my region of Vaudreuil-Soulanges. I saw on Antop Signal maps that we have towers in the US that we can get US channels, and also the Montreal towers for the Canadian stations. When I installed in in my attic, and pointed it to the south, I was getting all the channels in Yellow on Antop for my adress, and even a few of the ones in Red. So I tried it with the Montreal stations, and I am able to get all of them, but not when pointed to the US towers. I ended up ordering a second of the same model, to have one pointed in each direction, and combined signals with a gold RCA top of Line 3GHz splitter that I purchaed from Reno Depot. The splitter has made me loose only the channels in red for my address (ABC, and FOX), but I now have a combination of almost all the US channels, and Montreal channels. CTV, GLOBAL, TVA, V, TeleQuebec, Radio Canada (french and english), CBS, NBC, PBS, CW and many more. I cut the cable and can watch everything that I need for free. I would recommend this Antenna to all my friends and family if they are looking to save costs from high monthly cable bills!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty discrete and super awesome signal pickup

I have ordered several different antennas in the last year. Those little stickup ones that are flat and go on your window or wall are absolutely useless unless you live under the local transmission tower. You have to leave it to GE to put together a high-quality product. This is a solid antenna that I installed on my roof (outside) and it discrete enough to not be a monstrosity on my roof. I used the website they suggest to get the exact heading to orient based on maximum tower transmission and used the compass on my phone to orient. Was very easy and picked up the maximum number of channels. I am about 30 km from the tower and I have to go through some trees, unfortunately. Given that, I am very impressed with the pickup and the quality of the image. I do not get the random signal drops. My only complaint is the installation instructions. I used the picture on the box to complement the instructions as they were absolutely terrible. However, it is such a simple build that anyone that has built an Ikea piece of furniture should be able to figure it out. Since the rest is so good, I still gave an overall rating of 5 stars.
